VERSE 1

एतत् आख्यानम् तत् सर्वम् हनूमान् मारुत आत्मजः
भूयः समुपचक्राम वचनम् वक्तुम् उत्तरम्

etat ākhyānam tat sarvam hanūmān māruta ātmajaḥ
bhūyaḥ samupacakrāma vacanam vaktum uttaram

SYNONYMS

ākhyāya: after informing | sarvam: all | tat etat: this | hanuman: Hanuma | māruta ātmajaḥ: the son of wind-god | samupacakrāma: started | vaktum: to tell | bhūyaḥ: more | uttaram vacanam: of the following words. |

TRANSLATION

After informing all this, Hanuma the son of wind-god started telling more of the following words.

VERSE 2

सफलो राघव उद्योगः सुग्रीवस्य च सम्भ्रमः
शीलम् आसाद्य सीताया मम च प्रवणम् मनः

saphalo rāghava udyogaḥ sugrīvasya ca sambhramaḥ
śīlam āsādya sītāyā mama ca pravaṇam manaḥ

SYNONYMS

āsādya: getting the influence | sītāyāḥ śīlam: of the virtuousness of Seetha | rāghava udyogaḥ: Rama's effort | sugrīvasya sambhramaḥ ca: and Sugreeva's zeal | saphalaḥ: get fulfilled | mama: my | manaśca: mind also | pravām: is devoted (to her). |

TRANSLATION

"By the power of virtuousness of Seetha, Rama's effort and Sugreeva's zeal are getting fulfilled. My mind too is devoted to her."

VERSE 3

तपसा निर्दहेल्लोकान् स्रुद्धो वा निर्दहेदपि
सर्वधातिप्रवृद्धो।असौ रावणो राक्षसाधिपः

tapasā nirdahellokān sruddho vā nirdahedapi
sarvadhātipravṛddho|asau rāvaṇo rākṣasādhipaḥ

SYNONYMS

asau: this | rāvaṇaḥ: Ravana | rākṣasādhipaḥ: the king of demons | atipravṛddhaḥ: who is strong | sarvadhā: in all ways | nirdahet: can burn away | lokān: the worlds | tapasā: by his penance | kruddhovāpi: even if he is enraged | nirdahadapi: he can scorch away (his enemies). |

TRANSLATION

"Ravana, the king of demons, who is strong in all ways, can burn away the three worlds by the power of his penance. Even if he is enraged, he can scorch away his adversaries."

VERSE 4

तस्य ताम् स्पृशतो गात्रम् तपसा न विनाशितम्
न तदग्निशिखा कुर्यात्संस्पृष्टा पाणिना सती

tasya tām spṛśato gātram tapasā na vināśitam
na tadagniśikhā kuryātsaṃspṛṣṭā pāṇinā satī

SYNONYMS

tasya: his | gātram: body | spṛśataḥ: which touched | tām: that Seetha | na vināśitam: was not destroyed | tapasā: because of his penance | agniśikhā: even a flame | samspṛṣṭā satī: when fully touched | pāṇinā: with one's hand | na kuryāt: cannot do | tat: that | yat: which | janakasya ātmajā: Seetha | krodha kaluṣīkṛtā: if stirred by anger. |

TRANSLATION

"His body, which touched Seetha the daughter of Janaka, was not destroyed because of his askesis. Even a flame, when fully touched with one's hand, cannot do that which Seetha would, if stirred by anger."

VERSE 5

जाम्बवत्प्रमुखान् सर्वाननुज्ञाप्य महाहरीन्

jāmbavatpramukhān sarvānanujñāpya mahāharīn

SYNONYMS

6| asmin: This | kārye: work (of mine in the form of Seetha's discovery) | nivedite: which has been informed | bharatām: to you | evam gate: in this way | nyāyyamsma: it is indeed proper | draṣṭum: to see | tau pārthivātmajau: those two princess (Rama and Lakshmana) | vaidehyāsaha: along with Seetha | samanuñāpye: after taking leave | sarvān mahāharīn: of all the great monkeys | jāmbāt pramukhān: headed by Jambavan. |

TRANSLATION

"This work (of mine in the form of Seetha's discovery) has been informed to you in this way. It is indeed proper to see those two princes (Rama and Lakshmana) along with Seetha, after taking permission from all the great monkeys headed by Jambavan.

VERSE 7

अहमेको।अपि पर्याप्तः सराक्षसगणाम् पुरीम्
ताम् लङ्काम् तरसा हन्तुम् रावणम् च महाबलम्

ahameko|api paryāptaḥ sarākṣasagaṇām purīm
tām laṅkām tarasā hantum rāvaṇam ca mahābalam

SYNONYMS

aham: I | paryāptam: an sufficient | eko'pi: even alone | hantum: to destroy | tām laṅkām purīm: that City of Lanka | sarākṣasagaṇām: together with those troops of demons | mahābalam rāvaṇam ca: and the mighty Ravana | tarasā: rapidly. |

TRANSLATION

"I am sufficient, even alone; to destroy rapidly that City of Lanka together with those troops of demons as also the mighty Ravana."

VERSE 8

किम् पुनः सहितो वीरैर्बलवद्भिः कृतात्मभिः
कृतास्त्रैः प्लवगैः शूरैर्भवद्भिर्विजयैषिभिः

kim punaḥ sahito vīrairbalavadbhiḥ kṛtātmabhiḥ
kṛtāstraiḥ plavagaiḥ śūrairbhavadbhirvijayaiṣibhiḥ

SYNONYMS

bhavadbhiḥ sahitaḥ: together with you | balavadbhiḥ: who are strong | kṛtātmabhiḥ: whose spirit is disciplined | kṛtāstraiḥ: who are proficient in the use of arms | śūraiḥ: who are valiant | vijayaiṣibhiḥ: longing for victory | plavaṅgaiḥ: and who are moving by jumps | kim punaḥ: how much more so? |

TRANSLATION

"When accompanied by you, who are strong, whose spirit is disciplined, who are proficient in the use of arms, valiant, longing for victory and moving by jumps, how much more is required?"

VERSE 9

अहम् तु रावणम् युद्धे ससैन्यम् सपुरःसरम्
सहपुत्रम् वधिष्यामि सहोदरयुतम् युधि

aham tu rāvaṇam yuddhe sasainyam sapuraḥsaram
sahaputram vadhiṣyāmi sahodarayutam yudhi

SYNONYMS

yuddhe: in the battle | aham tu: I on my part | vadhiṣyāmi: will kill | rāvaṇam: Ravana | sa sainyam: along with his army | sa puraḥ saram: and forerunners | saputram: his sons | sahodarayutam: together with his brothers. |

TRANSLATION

"In the battle, I on my part will kill Ravana along with his army, his forerunners, his sons and his brothers."

VERSE 10

ब्रह्ममैन्द्रम् च रौद्रम् च वायव्यम् वारुणम् तथा
यदि शक्रजोतो।अ स्त्रणि दुर्निरीक्षाणि सम्युगे

brahmamaindram ca raudram ca vāyavyam vāruṇam tathā
yadi śakrajoto|a straṇi durnirīkṣāṇi samyuge

SYNONYMS

samyuge: in the battle | vidhamiṣyāmi: I can blow out | brāhmam: missiles | aindramca: Indra the god of celestials | roudram ca: the missiles presided over by Rudra | vāyuvyam: Vayu the wind-god | tathā: and | tāni: and those | astrāṇi: missiles | durnirīkṣāṇiyadi: even if they are difficult to be looked at | śakrajitaḥ: employed by Indrajit ( Ravana's eldest son) | haniṣyāmi: I can kill | rākṣasān: the demons. |

TRANSLATION

"In the battle, I can blow out the missiles presided over by Indra the lord of celestials, Brahma the creator, Rudra the god of destruction, Vayu the wind-god, Varuna the god of water and even those missiles even if they are difficult to be looked at, employed by Indrajit (Ravana's eldest son).

VERSE 11

भवतामभ्यनुज्ञातो विक्रमो मे रुणद्धि तम्

bhavatāmabhyanujñāto vikramo me ruṇaddhi tam

SYNONYMS

12| me: my | vikramaḥ: prowess | abhyanuñātaḥ: when permitted | bhavatām: by you | ruṇaddhi: will frustrate | tam rāvaṇam: that Ravana | śailavṛṣṭiḥ: the shower of rocks | atnlā: which will be unequalled | nirantarā: and incessant | visṛṣṭā: discharged | mayā: by me | hanyāt: can kill | devān api: even celestials | raṇe: in battle | kim punaḥ: how much more | tān: those | niśācarān: demons? |

TRANSLATION

"My prowess, when permitted by you, will frustrate that Ravana. The shower of rocks, which will be unequalled and incessant, discharged by me, can kill even celestials. How much more those demons?"

VERSE 13

सागरो।अप्यतियाद्वेलाम् मन्दरः प्रचलेदपि
न जाम्बवन्तम् समरे कम्पयेदरिवाहिनी

sāgaro|apyatiyādvelām mandaraḥ pracaledapi
na jāmbavantam samare kampayedarivāhinī

SYNONYMS

sāgaraḥ: the ocean | atiyādapi: may overflow | velām: its shore | mandraḥ: Mount Mandara | pracaledapi: may more from its position | (But) samara: in battle | arivāhinī: an army of adversaries | na kampayet: cannot stagger | jāmbavantam: Jambavan. |

TRANSLATION

"The ocean may overflow its shore. Mount Mandara may move from its position. But, in battle, no army of adversaries can stagger Jambavan."

VERSE 14

सर्वराक्षससम्घानाम् राक्षसा ये च महात्मनः
अलमेको विनाशाय वीरो वालिसुतः कपिः

sarvarākṣasasamghānām rākṣasā ye ca mahātmanaḥ
alameko vināśāya vīro vālisutaḥ kapiḥ

SYNONYMS

vīraḥ: the heroic | kapiḥ: Angada | vālisutaḥ: the son of Vali | ekaḥ: alone | alam: is sufficient | vināśāya: to destroy | sarva rākṣasa samghānām: all the troops of demons | ye punrvakāḥ: and even the demons who were their progenitors. |

TRANSLATION

"The heroic Angada, the son of Vali alone, is sufficient to destroy all the troops of demons and even the demons who were their progenitors."

VERSE 15

पनसस्योरुवेगेन नीलस्य च महात्मनः
मन्दरो।अप्यवशीर्येत किम्पुनर्युधि राक्षसाः

panasasyoruvegena nīlasya ca mahātmanaḥ
mandaro|apyavaśīryeta kimpunaryudhi rākṣasāḥ

SYNONYMS

ūruvegena: by the rapid movement of the thighs | mahātmanaḥ nīlasya: of the high-souled Nila | panasasya: and of Panasa | mandaro'pi: even Mount Mandara | avaśīryeta: can be shattered | kim punaḥ: How much more | rākṣasāḥ: the demons | yudhi: in battle? |

TRANSLATION

"By the rapid movement of the thighs of the high-souled Neela and of Panasa, even Mount Mandara can be shattered. How much more, the demons in battle?"

VERSE 16

सदेवासुरयक्षेषु गन्धर्वोरगपक्षिषु
मैन्दस्य प्रतियोद्धारम् शंसत द्विविदस्य वा

sadevāsurayakṣeṣu gandharvoragapakṣiṣu
maindasya pratiyoddhāram śaṃsata dvividasya vā

SYNONYMS

śamsata: tell (me) | pratiyodhāram: the one who can fight against | maindasya: Mainda | dvividasya vā: or Dvivida | gandharvoraga pakṣiṣu: among Gandharvas the celestial singers or Uragas the snakes or Pakshis the birds | sadevāsura yakṣeṣu: or the celestials or demons or Yakshas the semi-divine beings. |

TRANSLATION

"Tell me any one who can fight against Mainda or Dvivida, among Gandharvas the celestial singers or Uragas the serpents or Pakshis the birds or the celestials or the demons or Yakshas the semi-divine beings."

VERSE 17

अश्विपुत्रौ महाभागावेतौ प्लवगसत्तमौ
एतयोः प्रतियोद्धारम् न पश्यामि रणाजिरे

aśviputrau mahābhāgāvetau plavagasattamau
etayoḥ pratiyoddhāram na paśyāmi raṇājire

SYNONYMS

etau mahābhāgau: these two illustrious Mainda and Dvivida | aśviputrau: the sons of Ashvini kumaras | plavagasattamau: are the foremost among the monkeys | raṇājire: in the battle-field | na paśyāmi: I do not find | pratiyoddhāram: any one who can fight against | etayoḥ: these two monkeys. |

TRANSLATION

"These two illustrious sons of Ashvini Kumaras, Mainda and Dvivida are the foremost among the monkeys. In the battle-field, I do not find anyone who can fight against these two monkeys."

VERSE 18

पितामहवरोत्सेकात्परमम् दर्पमास्थितौ
अमृतप्राशनावेतौ सर्ववानरसत्तमौ

pitāmahavarotsekātparamam darpamāsthitau
amṛtaprāśanāvetau sarvavānarasattamau

SYNONYMS

pitāmaha varotsekāt: proud of having received boons from Brahma the creator and their grand-father | āsthitau: and abiding | paramam darpam: in a supreme pride | etau: these | sarva vānara sattamau: two foremost among all the monkeys | amṛtaprāśinau: live on Amrita the nectar. |

TRANSLATION

"Proud of having received boons from Brahma the creator and their grandfather and abiding in a supreme haughtiness, these two foremost among all the monkeys live on Amrita the nectar."

VERSE 19

अश्विनोर्माननार्थम् हि सर्वलोकपितामहः
सर्वावध्यत्वमतुलमनयोर्दत्तवान् पुरा

aśvinormānanārtham hi sarvalokapitāmahaḥ
sarvāvadhyatvamatulamanayordattavān purā

SYNONYMS

purā: long ago | sarvalokapitāmahaḥ: Brahma | dattavān: gave atulam = an unequal boon | anayoḥ: to them | mānanārtam: in honour | aśvinau: of Ashivinikumaras | sarvāvadhyatvam: regarding their inviolability. |

TRANSLATION

"Long ago, Brahma the grandfather of all the worlds gave an unequal boon to them in honour of Ashvini Kumaras regarding their inviolability."

VERSE 20

वरोत्सेकेन मत्तौ च प्रमथ्य महतीम् चमूम्
सुराणाममृतम् वीरौ पीतवन्तौ प्लवम्गमौ

varotsekena mattau ca pramathya mahatīm camūm
surāṇāmamṛtam vīrau pītavantau plavamgamau

SYNONYMS

varotsekena: by the pride of the boons | vīrau plavaṅgamau: these two heroic monkeys | mattouca: excited with joy | pramathya: harassing | mahatīm cāmūm: a great army | surāṇām: of celestials | pītavantau: drank up | amṛtam: the nectar. |

TRANSLATION

"By the pride of those boons, those two heroic monkeys harassed a great army of celestials and thereupon drank up nectar, excited as they were with joy."

VERSE 21

एतावेन हि सम्क्रुद्धौ सवाजिरथकुम्जराम्
लङ्काम् नाशयितुम् शक्तौ सर्वे तिष्ठन्तु वानराः

etāvena hi samkruddhau savājirathakumjarām
laṅkām nāśayitum śaktau sarve tiṣṭhantu vānarāḥ

SYNONYMS

sarve: (Let) all | vānaraḥ: monkyes | tiṣṭhantu: stand apart | samkṛddhau etāveva: even these Mainda and Dvividva for their part | śaktau: are capable | nāśayitum: to destroy | laṅkām: the city of Lanka | savājiratha kumjarām: along with its horses |

TRANSLATION

"Let all the other monkeys stand aside. Even these Mainda and Dvivida on their part are capable of destroying the entire city of Lanka together with its horses, chariots and elephants."

VERSE 22

मयैव निहता लङ्का दग्धा भस्मीकृता पुनः
राजमार्गेषु सर्वत्र नाम विश्रावित मया

mayaiva nihatā laṅkā dagdhā bhasmīkṛtā punaḥ
rājamārgeṣu sarvatra nāma viśrāvita mayā

SYNONYMS

mayaiva: by me alone | nihatā: was destroyed | laṅkā: the City of Lanka | sarvatra: in all | rājamārgeṣu: the royal high-ways | nāma: the name | viśavitam: was made heard | mayā: by me (as follows). |

TRANSLATION

"I alone burnt and destroyed the City of Lanka. In all its royal high-ways, the name (of Rama and others) was proclaimed by me as follows:

VERSE 23

जयत्यतिबलो रामो लक्ष्मणश्च महाबलः
राजा जयति सुग्रीवो राघवेणाभिपालितः

jayatyatibalo rāmo lakṣmaṇaśca mahābalaḥ
rājā jayati sugrīvo rāghaveṇābhipālitaḥ

SYNONYMS

24| jayati: Victorious | rāmaḥ: (is) Rama | atiblaḥ: the exceedingly strong | mahābalah: and the mighty | lakṣmaṇaśca: Lakshmana too | jayati: victorious | rājā sugrīvaḥ: is King Sugreeva | abhipālitaḥ: protected | rāghavaṇa: by Rama | aham: I | hanumān: am Hanuma | dāsaḥ: a servant | kosala rājasya: of Rama | pavana sambhavaḥ: and the son of the wind-god | iti: in this way | nāma: the name (of Rama and others) | viśrāvitam: was heralded | mayā: by me | sarvatra: everywhere. |

TRANSLATION

"'Victorious is Rama, the exceedingly strong and the mighty Lakshmana too! Victorious is King Sugreeva, protected by Rama. I am Hanuma, a servant of Rama and the son of wind-god'. In this way, the name (of Rama and others) was heralded by me everywhere."

VERSE 25

अशोक वनिका मध्ये रावणस्य दुरात्मनः
अधस्तात् शिंशपा वृक्षे साध्वी करुणम् आस्थिता

aśoka vanikā madhye rāvaṇasya durātmanaḥ
adhastāt śiṃśapā vṛkṣe sādhvī karuṇam āsthitā

SYNONYMS

26| aśokavanikāmadhye: in the midst of Ashoka-garden | durātmanaḥ rāvaṇasya: of the evil-minded Ravana | adhastāt: and underneath | śimśupāvṛkṣe: Shimshupa tree | sādhvī: the virtuous woman | vaidehī: Seetha | āsthitā karuṇam: is staying dejected | parivṛtā: encircled | rākṣabhīḥ: with female-demons | śoka samtāpakarśitā: agonised with grief and anguish | niṣprabhā: lustreless | candralekheva: like a digit of the moon | megha lekhā parivṛtā: encircled by a line of clouds | acintayantī: and disregarding | baladarpitam rāvaṇam: Ravana who is arrogant of his strength. |

TRANSLATION

"In the midst of Ashoka garden of the evil-minded Ravana and underneath a Shimshupa tree, the virtuous Seetha was seen staying dejected, encircled as she was with female-demons, agonized with grief and anguish, lusterless like a digit of the moon encircled by a line of clouds and disregarding that Ravana who is arrogant of his strength."

VERSE 27

पति व्रता च सुश्रोणी अवष्टब्धा च जानकी

pati vratā ca suśroṇī avaṣṭabdhā ca jānakī

SYNONYMS

28| jānakī: Seetha | pati vratā: a devoted and virtuous | suśroṇī: having beautiful hips | avaṣṭabdhā: has been placed under restraint | śubhū: the auspicious | vaidehī: Seetha | anuraktā: who is devoted | rāmam: to Rama | sarvātmanā: in all ways | ananya cittā: giving her undivided thought | rāme: to Rama | paulomīva: like Shachi the goddess | puram dare: in the concern of Indra the destroyer of strong holds. |

TRANSLATION

"Seetha, a devoted and virtuous wife, having charming hips, has been placed under restraint. The auspicious Seetha is devoted to Rama in all ways, giving her undivided thought to Rama like Shachi the goddess, giving her concern to Indra the destroyer of strong holds."

VERSE 29

तत् एक वासः सम्वीता रजो ध्वस्ता तथैव च
शोक सम्ताप दीन अन्गी सीता भर्तृ हिते रता

tat eka vāsaḥ samvītā rajo dhvastā tathaiva ca
śoka samtāpa dīna angī sītā bhartṛ hite ratā

SYNONYMS

sītā: Seetha | tat eka vāsaḥ samvītā: wearing that single piece of cloth | tathaiva: and even | rajo dhvastā: covered with dust | śoka samtāpa dīna aṇgī: with her body looking miserable with grief and anguish | ratā: devoted as she is | bhartṛ hite: to the welfare of her husband. |

TRANSLATION

"Weaving that single piece of cloth, which she had on her person even while being borne away by Ravana, and likewise covered with dust, she was seen by me in a miserable condition with her grief and anguish, devoted as she was to the welfare of her husband."

VERSE 30

सा मया राक्षसी मध्ये तर्ज्यमाना मुहुः मुहुः
राक्षसीभिः विरूपाभिः दृष्टा हि प्रमदा वने

sā mayā rākṣasī madhye tarjyamānā muhuḥ muhuḥ
rākṣasībhiḥ virūpābhiḥ dṛṣṭā hi pramadā vane

SYNONYMS

31| tarjyamānā: (Seetha) was being frightened | muhuḥ muhuḥ: time and again | virūpābhiḥ rākṣasībhiḥ: by the ugly female-demons | : that Seetha | eka veṇī dharā: wearing a single braid of hair | dīnā: looking depressed | bhartṛ cinta parāyaṇā: fully engaged in thinking about her lord | adhaḥ śayyā: sleeping on the ground | padminīva: and looking like a lotus | vivarṇāngī: with a discoloured figure | hima agame: on the arrival of winter-season | vinivṛtta arthā rāvaṇāt: having averted to the object of Ravana | martavya kṛta niścayā: and having determined to die | dṛṣṭā: was seen | mayā: by me | pramadā vane: in a royal pleasure-garden | rākṣasī madhye: amidst female-demons. |

TRANSLATION

"I saw Seetha in a royal pleasure garden, amidst some female-demons. Seetha was being frightened time and again by those ugly female-demons. That Seetha, wearing a single braid of hair and looking depressed, was fully engaged in thinking about her lord. Looking like a lotus with a discoloured figure in winter, she had determined to die, utterly averting to do anything with Ravana."

VERSE 32

कथंचिन् मृग शाव अक्षी विश्वासम् उपपादिता

kathaṃcin mṛga śāva akṣī viśvāsam upapāditā

SYNONYMS

33| mṛgaśābākṣī: Seetha | upapāditā: was given | viśvāsam: confidence | kathamcit: with a great difficulty | tataḥ: thereupon | sambhāṣitācaiva: she was conversed with | sarvam artham: and the entire thing | darśitā: explained | upāgatā: (She) came to | prītim: delight | śrutvā: after hearing | rāmasugrīva sakhyam: the companionship between Rama and Sugreeva. |

TRANSLATION

"With great difficulty, I created confidence in that fawn-eyed Seetha. Thereafter, I talked to her and explained everything to her. She was delighted to hear the companionship cropped up between Rama and Sugreeva."

VERSE 34

नियतः समुदाचारो भक्तिः भर्तरि च उत्तमा
यन् न हन्ति दशग्रीवम् स महात्मा कृतागसम्

niyataḥ samudācāro bhaktiḥ bhartari ca uttamā
yan na hanti daśagrīvam sa mahātmā kṛtāgasam

SYNONYMS

mahātmā sā: that high-souled Seetha | na hanti daśagrīvam: does not kill Ravana | kṛtāgasam: who has committed an offence | itiyatniyataḥ samudācāraḥ: because she conducts herself well with restraint | uttamā: supreme | bhaktiḥ: is her devotion | bhartari: to her lord. |

TRANSLATION

"That high-souled Seetha does not kill Ravana who has committed an offence because she conducts herself well with restraint and since supreme is her devotion to her lord."

VERSE 35

निमित्त मात्रम् रामः तु वधे तस्य भविष्यति
सा प्रकृत्यैव तन्वङ्गी तद्वियोगाच्छ कर्शिता

nimitta mātram rāmaḥ tu vadhe tasya bhaviṣyati
sā prakṛtyaiva tanvaṅgī tadviyogāccha karśitā

SYNONYMS

rāmastu: Rama | nimitta mātram bhaviṣyati: will become a mere instrument | vadhe: in killing | tasya: of that Ravana | : that Seetha | tanvaṇgī: who is a delicate-limbed woman | prakṛtyeva: just by her nature | karśitāca: was emaciated | tadviyogāt: by the separation from her lord | gatā: has grown | tanutām: thin | pratipatpāṭha śīlasya vidyaiva: like the learning of a scholar continuing his studies even on the first day of a lunar fortnight (which must be observed as a complete holiday |

TRANSLATION

"Rama, on his part, will become mere instrument in killing that Ravana. That Seetha, who is by her own nature, on delicate-limbed woman, was emaciated because of separation from her lord. She had grown thin like the learning of a scholar continuing his studies even on the first day of lunar fortnight (which must be observed as a complete holiday by students."

इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे आदिकाव्ये सुन्दरकाण्डे एकोनषष्टितमः सर्गः

ityārṣe śrīmadrāmāyaṇe ādikāvye sundarakāṇḍe ekonaṣaṣṭitamaḥ sargaḥ

TRANSLATION

"Thus, the illustrious Seetha remains immersed in grief. Let all that be done, which requires to be counteracted by way of a relief in this matter."
