VERSE 1

सा सीता तत् वचनम् श्रुत्वा पूर्ण चन्द्र निभ आनना
हनूमन्तम् उवाच इदम् धर्म अर्थ सहितम् वचः

sā sītā tat vacanam śrutvā pūrṇa candra nibha ānanā
hanūmantam uvāca idam dharma artha sahitam vacaḥ

SYNONYMS

śrutvā: hearing | hanūmantam: to Hanuma. | : that | sītā: Seetha | pūrṇacandra nibhānanā: with her face resembling the full moon | uvāca: spoke | idam: these | vacaḥ: words | dharmārthasahitam: supported by justice |

TRANSLATION

Hearing Hanuma's words, Seetha whose face resembled the full moon, spoke the following words braced with justice and utility, to Hanuma.

VERSE 2

अमृतम् विष संसृष्टम् त्वया वानर भाषितम्
यच् च न अन्य मना रामो यच् च शोक परायणः

amṛtam viṣa saṃsṛṣṭam tvayā vānara bhāṣitam
yac ca na anya manā rāmo yac ca śoka parāyaṇaḥ

SYNONYMS

vānara: O Hanuma! | bhāṣitam: the words spoken | tvayā: by you | rāmaḥ: (that) Rama | anyamanāḥ na iti yat: is not having any other thoughts | śoka parāyaṇaḥ iti ca yat: and is fully overwhelmed by sorrow | amṛtam: (are like) ambrosia | viṣa samsṛṣṭam: filled with poisons. |

TRANSLATION

"O Hanuma! The words spoken by you viz. that Rama is not having any other thoughts (than on me) and is fully overwhelmed by sorrow are like ambrosia mixed with poisons."

VERSE 3

ऐश्वर्ये वा सुविस्तीर्णे व्यसने वा सुदारुणे
रज्ज्वा इव पुरुषम् बद्ध्वा कृत अन्तः परिकर्षति

aiśvarye vā suvistīrṇe vyasane vā sudāruṇe
rajjvā iva puruṣam baddhvā kṛta antaḥ parikarṣati

SYNONYMS

kṛtāntaḥ: destiny | parikarṣati: drags out | puruṣam: a man | suvistīrṇe aiśvaryavā: into a very extensive fortune | atidāruṇe vyasane vā: or into a very dreadful adversity | rajjvā baddhvā iva: as (dragged out) bound with ropes. |

TRANSLATION

"Destiny drags out a man into a very extensive fortune or into a very dreadful adversity, as if being dragged, tied with ropes."

VERSE 4

विधिः नूनम् असम्हार्यः प्राणिनाम् प्लवग उत्तम
सौमित्रिम् माम् च रामम् च व्यसनैः पश्य मोहितान्

vidhiḥ nūnam asamhāryaḥ prāṇinām plavaga uttama
saumitrim mām ca rāmam ca vyasanaiḥ paśya mohitān

SYNONYMS

plavagottama: O Hanuma the best of monkeys! | prāṇinām: for living beings | vidhiḥ: destiny | nūnam: is surely | asamhāryaḥ: irresistible | paśya: see | saumitrim: Lakshmana | māmca: myself | rāmamca: and Rama | mohitān: are bewildered | vyasanaiḥ: by misfortunes. |

TRANSLATION

"O Hanuma the best of monkeys! For living beings, destiny is surely irresistible. See how Lakshmana, myself and Rama are baffled by misfortunes."

VERSE 5

शोकस्य अस्य कदा पारम् राघवो अधिगमिष्यति
प्लवमानः परिश्रान्तो हत नौः सागरे यथा

śokasya asya kadā pāram rāghavo adhigamiṣyati
plavamānaḥ pariśrānto hata nauḥ sāgare yathā

SYNONYMS

kadā: when | rāghavaḥ: will Rama | pariśrāntaḥ yathā: as a thoroughly fatigued man | plavamānaḥ: swimming | hatanauḥ: having his ship wrecked | sāgare: in (the middle of) the sea | adhigamiṣyati: indeed reach | pāram: the end | asya śokasya: of this grief? |

TRANSLATION

"When will Rama reach the end of this grief any more than a thoroughly fatigued man, having suffered a ship wreck is swimming in the middle of the sea?"

VERSE 6

राक्षसानाम् क्षयम् कृत्वा सूदयित्वा च रावणम्
लन्काम् उन्मूलिताम् कृत्वा कदा द्रक्ष्यति माम् पतिः

rākṣasānām kṣayam kṛtvā sūdayitvā ca rāvaṇam
lankām unmūlitām kṛtvā kadā drakṣyati mām patiḥ

SYNONYMS

kadā: when | drakṣyati patiḥ: will my husband see | mām: me | vadham kṛtvā: after annihilation | rākṣasām: of demons | sūdayitvā: killing | rāvaṇam ca: Ravana too | kṛtvā: and making | laṅkām: the city of Lanka | unmūlitām: debacled?" |

TRANSLATION

"When will my husband see me, after annihilation of the demons, killing of Ravana and making the City of Lanka debacled?."

VERSE 7

स वाच्यः सम्त्वरस्व इति यावत् एव न पूर्यते
अयम् सम्वत्सरः कालः तावद्त् हि मम जीवितम्

sa vācyaḥ samtvarasva iti yāvat eva na pūryate
ayam samvatsaraḥ kālaḥ tāvadt hi mama jīvitam

SYNONYMS

yāvadeva: till | ayam: this | samvatsara kālaḥ: period of one year | na pūryate: is not completed | saḥ: that Rama | vācyaḥ: is to be told | samtvarasveti: to make haste | mama: (since) my | jīvitam: survival | tāvaddhi: will indeed be till that time. |

TRANSLATION

"Till the current period of one year is not completed, that Rama is to be told to make haste to save me; since my life will be lasting till such time only."

VERSE 8

वर्तते दशमो मासो द्वौ तु शेषौ प्लवम्गम
रावणेन नृशंसेन समयो यः कृतो मम

vartate daśamo māso dvau tu śeṣau plavamgama
rāvaṇena nṛśaṃsena samayo yaḥ kṛto mama

SYNONYMS

plavaṅgama: O Hanuma! | yaḥ: In that | samayaḥ: time | kṛtaḥ: given | mama: to me | nṛśamsena rāvaṇena: by the cruel RavanaH | daśamaḥ: the tenth | māsaḥ: month | vartate: is running | dvau tu: only two months | śeśau: are left. |

TRANSLATION

"O Hanuma! Out of the time-limit given to me by the cruel Ravana for my survival, the tenth month is now running. Only two months are left out."

VERSE 9

विभीषणेन च भ्रात्रा मम निर्यातनम् प्रति
अनुनीतः प्रयत्नेन न च तत् कुरुते मतिम्

vibhīṣaṇena ca bhrātrā mama niryātanam prati
anunītaḥ prayatnena na ca tat kurute matim

SYNONYMS

anunītaḥ: (even if) humbly entreated | prayatnena: with continued exertion | vibhīṣaṇena: by Vibhishana bhraatraa = his brother | mama niryātanam prati: about my giving back | a kurute: (Ravana) is not making up | matim: his mind | tat: in that matter. |

TRANSLATION

"Even when humbly entreated with continued exertion by Vibhishana his brother about my restoration (to Rama), Ravana is not making up his mind to do so."

VERSE 10

मम प्रतिप्रदानम् हि रावणस्य न रोचते
रावणम् मार्गते सम्ख्ये मृत्युः काल वशम् गतम्

mama pratipradānam hi rāvaṇasya na rocate
rāvaṇam mārgate samkhye mṛtyuḥ kāla vaśam gatam

SYNONYMS

mama prati pradānam: my restoration | na rocate: is not agreeable | rāvaṇasya: to Ravana | samkhye: In the battle | mṛtyuḥ: death | mārgate: is seeking | rāvaṇam: for Ravana | kāla vaśamgatam: who has become subject to the power of time. |

TRANSLATION

"My restoration is not agreeable to Ravana. In the battle, death lies in wait for Ravana, who has become subject to the power of Time."

VERSE 11

ज्येष्ठा कन्या अनला नम विभीषण सुता कपे
तया मम एतत् आख्यातम् मात्रा प्रहितया स्वयम्

jyeṣṭhā kanyā analā nama vibhīṣaṇa sutā kape
tayā mama etat ākhyātam mātrā prahitayā svayam

SYNONYMS

kape: O Hanuma! | nalā: Nala | jyeṣṭhā: the eldest | kanyā: maiden | vibhīṣaṇa sutā: daughter of Vibhishana | prahitayā: sent | svayam: personally | tayā: by her | mātrā: mother | ākhyātam: told | mama: me | idam: this. |

TRANSLATION

"O Hanuma! Nala, the eldest maiden daughter of Vibhishana, when she was sent personally to me by her mother, told me about this."

VERSE 12

आशंस इति हरि श्रेष्ठ क्षिप्रम् माम् प्राप्स्यते पतिः
अन्तः आत्मा हि मे शुद्धः तस्मिन् च बहवो गुणाः

āśaṃsa iti hari śreṣṭha kṣipram mām prāpsyate patiḥ
antaḥ ātmā hi me śuddhaḥ tasmin ca bahavo guṇāḥ

SYNONYMS

hariśreṣṭha: O Hanuma the excellent of monkeys! | patiḥ: Rama | asamśayam: without doubt | prāpasyasi: will obtain | mām: me | kṣipram: soon | me: My | antarātmāca: heart | śuddhaḥ: is pure | tasmimśca: In that Rama also | bahavaḥ: (there are) many | guṇāḥ: good qualities. |

TRANSLATION

"O Hanuma the excellent of monkeys! Rama, my husband, will soon regain me without any doubt. Because my heart is pure and in Rama also, there are many good qualities existing."

VERSE 13

उत्साहः पौरुषम् सत्त्वम् आनृशंस्यम् कृतज्ञता
विक्रमः च प्रभावः च सन्ति वानर राघवे

utsāhaḥ pauruṣam sattvam ānṛśaṃsyam kṛtajñatā
vikramaḥ ca prabhāvaḥ ca santi vānara rāghave

SYNONYMS

vānara: O Hanuma! | rāghave: In Rama | utsāhaḥ: perseverance | paruṣam: manliness | sattvam: courage | anṛśamsyam: non-mischievousness | kṛtañatā: gratitude | vikramaśca: prowess | prabhāvaśca: and energy | santi: are there. |

TRANSLATION

"O Hanuma! In Rama are figured, pesseverence, manliness, courage, non-mischievousness, gratitude, prowess and energy."

VERSE 14

चतुर्दश सहस्राणि राक्षसानाम् जघान यः
जन स्थाने विना भ्रात्रा शत्रुः कः तस्य न उद्विजेत्

caturdaśa sahasrāṇi rākṣasānām jaghāna yaḥ
jana sthāne vinā bhrātrā śatruḥ kaḥ tasya na udvijet

SYNONYMS

yaḥ: which Rama | vinābhrātrā: without the help of Lakshmana | janasthāne: in Janasthana | kaḥ: which shatruH = adversary | nodvijet: will not have fear | tasya: of such Rama? |

TRANSLATION

"Which Rama, who without the help of Lakshmana his brother, killed fourteen thousand demos in Janasthana (part of the forest), what adversary will not have fear of such a man?"

VERSE 15

न स शक्यः तुलयितुम् व्यसनैः पुरुष ऋषभः
अहम् तस्य अनुभावज्ञा शक्रस्य इव पुलोमजा

na sa śakyaḥ tulayitum vyasanaiḥ puruṣa ṛṣabhaḥ
aham tasya anubhāvajñā śakrasya iva pulomajā

SYNONYMS

saḥ: that Rama | puruṣarṣabhaḥ: the excellent of men | na śakyaḥ: is not compelled | tulayitum: to be moved | vyasanaiḥ: by troubles | aham: I | prabhāvañā: know the energy | tasya: of Rama | pulomajā: as Shachi | śakrasyeva: (knows) of Indra the Lord of celestials. |

TRANSLATION

"Rama, the excellent among men, is not compelled to be moved by troubles. I now well the energy of Rama, as Shachi the wife of Indra knows the energy of Indra the Lord of celestials."

VERSE 16

शर जाल अंशुमान् शूरः कपे राम दिवा करः
शत्रु रक्षोमयम् तोयम् उपशोषम् नयिष्यति

śara jāla aṃśumān śūraḥ kape rāma divā karaḥ
śatru rakṣomayam toyam upaśoṣam nayiṣyati

SYNONYMS

kape: O Hanuma! | śūraḥ: the powerful | rāma divākaraḥ: Rama like the sun | śara jālāmśumān: with his multitude of ray-like arrows | nayiṣyati: will get | toyam: the water | śatrurakṣau ayam: of adversaries as demons | upaśoṣam: dried up. |

TRANSLATION

"O Hanuma! The powerful Rama like the sun, with his multitude of ray-like arrows, will dry up the water in the form of hostile adversaries."

VERSE 17

इति सम्जल्पमानाम् ताम् राम अर्थे शोक कर्शिताम्
अश्रु सम्पूर्ण वदनाम् उवाच हनुमान् कपिः

iti samjalpamānām tām rāma arthe śoka karśitām
aśru sampūrṇa vadanām uvāca hanumān kapiḥ

SYNONYMS

kapiḥ: Hanuma | uvāca: spoke | vacanam: (the following) words | tām: to Seetha | samjalpamānam: who was talking | iti: thus | śoka karśitām: who was emaciated with grief | rāmarthe: for Rama | aśrusampūrṇanayanām: and with her eyes full of tears. |

TRANSLATION

Hanuma spoke the following words to Seetha, who was thus talking with grief for Rama and with her eyes full of tears."

VERSE 18

श्रुत्वा एव तु वचो मह्यम् क्षिप्रम् एष्यति राघवः
चमूम् प्रकर्षन् महतीम् हरि ऋक्ष गण सम्कुलाम्

śrutvā eva tu vaco mahyam kṣipram eṣyati rāghavaḥ
camūm prakarṣan mahatīm hari ṛkṣa gaṇa samkulām

SYNONYMS

śrutvaiva: soon after hearing | mama: my | vacaḥ: words | rāghavaḥ: Rama | kṣipram: will soon | eṣyati: come | prakarṣan: engaging | mahatīm: a great | camūm: army | haryṛkṣaguṇa samkulām: comprising a multitude of monkeys and bears. |

TRANSLATION

"Soon after hearing my words, Rama will soon come, engaging a great army comprising of a multitude of monkeys and bears with him."

VERSE 19

अथवा मोचयिष्यामि ताम् अद्य एव हि राक्षसात्
अस्मात् दुह्खात् उपारोह मम पृष्ठम् अनिन्दिते

athavā mocayiṣyāmi tām adya eva hi rākṣasāt
asmāt duhkhāt upāroha mama pṛṣṭham anindite

SYNONYMS

varānane: O Seetha with a charming face! | athavā: Or rather | mocayiṣyāmi: I shal relieve | tvām: you | asmātduḥkhāt: from this grief | adyaiva: now itself | anindite: O irreproachable lady! | upāroha: Ascend | mama pṛṣṭham: my back. |

TRANSLATION

"O Seetha with a charming face! Or rather, I shall relieve you from this grief now itself. O irreproachable lady! Ascend my back. I shall take you to Rama."

VERSE 20

त्वम् हि पृष्ठ गताम् कृत्वा सम्तरिष्यामि सागरम्
शक्तिः अस्ति हि मे वोढुम् लन्काम् अपि सरावणाम्

tvam hi pṛṣṭha gatām kṛtvā samtariṣyāmi sāgaram
śaktiḥ asti hi me voḍhum lankām api sarāvaṇām

SYNONYMS

tvām pṛṣṭha gatām kṛtvā: I shall cause you sit on my back | samtariṣyāmi: and cross | sāgaram: the ocean | me: to me | śaktiḥ asti hi: there is indeed capacity | voḍhum: to carry | laṅkām api: Lanka too | sarāvaṇam: along with Ravana. |

TRANSLATION

"I shall cause you sit on my back and cross the ocean. I have indeed capacity to carry even Lanka together with Ravana."

VERSE 21

अहम् प्रस्रवणस्थाय राघवाय अद्य मैथिलि
प्रापयिष्यामि शक्राय हव्यम् हुतम् इव अनलः

aham prasravaṇasthāya rāghavāya adya maithili
prāpayiṣyāmi śakrāya havyam hutam iva analaḥ

SYNONYMS

maithili: O Seetha! | adyaiva: now itself | aham: I | prāpayiṣyāmi: shall cause you to attain | rāghavāya: Rama | prasravaṇasthāya: who is stationed at Prasravana Mountain | analah: even as fire-god | havyam hutam: the oblations offered | śakrāya: to Indra the Lord of celestials. |

TRANSLATION

"O Seetha! Now itself, I shall cause you to reach Rama who is staying at Prasravana Mountain, even as fire-god hands over the oblations offered in the sacrifices to Indra the Lord of celestials."

VERSE 22

द्रक्ष्यसि अद्य एव वैदेहि राघवम् सह लक्ष्मणम्
व्यवसाय समायुक्तम् विष्णुम् दैत्य वधे यथा

drakṣyasi adya eva vaidehi rāghavam saha lakṣmaṇam
vyavasāya samāyuktam viṣṇum daitya vadhe yathā

SYNONYMS

vaidehi: O Seetha! | adyaiva: now itself | drakṣyasi: you can see | rāghavam: Rama | sahalakṣmaṇam: together with Lakshmana | vyavasāya samāyuktam: getting ready for a strenuous effort ( to annihilate the demons) | viṣnum yathā: as Vishnu the Lord of preservation | daitya vadhe: for annihilation of demons. |

TRANSLATION

"O Seetha! Now itself, you can see Rama together with Lakshmana, getting ready for a strenuous effort to annihilate the demons, as Vishnu the Lord of Preservation getting ready for killing of demons."

VERSE 23

त्वत् दर्शन कृत उत्साहम् आश्रमस्थम् महाबलम्
पुरंदरम् इव आसीनम् नाग राजस्य मूर्धनि

tvat darśana kṛta utsāham āśramastham mahābalam
puraṃdaram iva āsīnam nāga rājasya mūrdhani

SYNONYMS

mahābalan: the mighty Rama | tvaddarśana kṛtotsāham: with a gusto to see you | aśramastham: is staying in a hermitage | puramdaramiva: even as Indra the destroyer of strong holds | āsīnam: sitting |

TRANSLATION

"The mighty Rama, with a gusto to see you, is staying in a hermitage, even as Indra the destroyer of strong-holds sitting on the back of Airavata the elephant."

VERSE 24

पृष्ठम् आरोह मे देवि मा विकान्क्षस्व शोभने
योगम् अन्विच्छ रामेण शश अन्केन इव रोहिणी

pṛṣṭham āroha me devi mā vikānkṣasva śobhane
yogam anviccha rāmeṇa śaśa ankena iva rohiṇī

SYNONYMS

śobhane devi: O Seetha the auspicious princess! | āroha: Ascend | mama: my | pṛṣṭham: back | mā vicāraya: do not have hesitation | anviccha: be inclined | yogam: of joining | rāmeṇa: with Rama | rohiṇī iva: as Rohini moon's favourite wife | śaśāṅka: (went) to the moon |

TRANSLATION

"O Seetha the auspicious princess! Mount on my back. Do not have any hesitation. Be inclined of joining Rama even as Rohini, moon's favourite wife, joined the moon."

VERSE 25

कथयन्ति इव चन्द्रेण सूर्येण इव सुवर्चला
मत् पृष्ठम् अधिरुह्य त्वम् तर आकाश महाअर्णवम्

kathayanti iva candreṇa sūryeṇa iva suvarcalā
mat pṛṣṭham adhiruhya tvam tara ākāśa mahāarṇavam

SYNONYMS

tvam: you | adhiruhya: ascend | matpṛṣṭham: my back | tara: and cross | ākāśamahārṇavau: the sky and the ocean | kathayantīva: as though speaking | mahārciṣā sūryeṇa: to the greatly resplendent sun | candreṇa: and to the moon. |

TRANSLATION

"You ascend my back and cross the ocean by journeying through the sky, as though speaking to the greatly resplendent sun and to the moon."

VERSE 26

न हि मे सम्प्रयातस्य त्वाम् इतो नयतो अन्गने
अनुगन्तुम् गतिम् शक्ताः सर्वे लन्का निवासिनः

na hi me samprayātasya tvām ito nayato angane
anugantum gatim śaktāḥ sarve lankā nivāsinaḥ

SYNONYMS

āṇgane: O Seetha! | anugantam: following | me: my | gatim: way | samprayātasya: of the journey | nayataḥ: talking | tvām: you | itaḥ: from here | sarve: all | laṅka nivāsinaḥ: the residents of Lanka | na śaktāḥ: are not competent. |

TRANSLATION

"O Seetha! While I am taking you from here, no body staying in Lanka is competent to come along with me."

VERSE 27

यथा एव अहम् इह प्राप्तः तथैव अहम् असंशयम्
यास्यामि पश्य वैदेहि त्वाम् उद्यम्य विहायसम्

yathā eva aham iha prāptaḥ tathaiva aham asaṃśayam
yāsyāmi paśya vaidehi tvām udyamya vihāyasam

SYNONYMS

vaidehi: O Seetha | yathaiva: In what manner | aham: I | prāptaḥ: reached | iha: here | tathaiva: in the same manner | yāsyāmi: I shall move | vihāyasam: through the sky | tvām udyamya: lifting you up | paśya: see | asamśayam: there is no doubt. |

TRANSLATION

"O Seetha! In what manner I reached here, in the same manner, I shall move through the sky, taking you along with me. See, there is no doubt."

VERSE 28

मैथिली तु हरि श्रेष्ठात् श्रुत्वा वचनम् अद्भुतम्
हर्ष विस्मित सर्व अन्गी हनूमन्तम् अथ अब्रवीत्

maithilī tu hari śreṣṭhāt śrutvā vacanam adbhutam
harṣa vismita sarva angī hanūmantam atha abravīt

SYNONYMS

śrutvā: hearing | adbhutam: the surprising | vacanam: words | hariśreṣṭhāt: from Hanuma | maithilītu: Seetha then | harṣa vismita sarvāṇgī: with her entire body astonished with joy | atha: thereafter | abravīt: spoke | hanumantam: to Hanuma (as follows): |

TRANSLATION

Hearing those astonishing words from Hanuma, Seetha with her entire limbs flowered with joy, thereafter spoke to Hanuma (as follows):

VERSE 29

हनूमन् दूरम् अध्वनम् कथम् माम् वोढुम् इच्छसि
तत् एव खलु ते मन्ये कपित्वम् हरि यूथप

hanūman dūram adhvanam katham mām voḍhum icchasi
tat eva khalu te manye kapitvam hari yūthapa

SYNONYMS

hanuman: O Hanuma! | katham: how | icchasi: are you wishing | voḍhum: to carry | mām: me | hariyūthapa: O chief of monkeys! | manye: I consider | tadeva khalu: that itself indeed | te: (as) your | kapitvam: apishness. |

TRANSLATION

"O Hanuma! How are you wishing to carry me for such a long distance? O chief of monkeys! I consider this indeed as your apishness!"

VERSE 30

कथम् वा अल्प शरीरः त्वम् माम् इतो नेतुम् इच्छसि
सकाशम् मानव इन्द्रस्य भर्तुः मे प्लवग ऋषभ

katham vā alpa śarīraḥ tvam mām ito netum icchasi
sakāśam mānava indrasya bhartuḥ me plavaga ṛṣabha

SYNONYMS

plavagarṣabha: O the excellent of monkeys! katham vaa = how do | tvam: you | alpaśaiiraḥ: with such a small body | icchasi: wish | netum: to take | itaḥ: from here | sakāśam: to the presence | bhartuḥ mānavaendrasya: of my husband |

TRANSLATION

"O Hanuma the best of monkeys! With such a small seized body, how do you wish to take me from here to the presence of my husband, Rama the Lord of human beings?"

VERSE 31

सीताया वचनम् श्रुत्वा हनूमान् मारुत आत्मजः
चिन्तयामास लक्ष्मीवान् नवम् परिभवम् कृतम्

sītāyā vacanam śrutvā hanūmān māruta ātmajaḥ
cintayāmāsa lakṣmīvān navam paribhavam kṛtam

SYNONYMS

śrutvā: hearing | vacanam: the words | sītāyāḥ: of Seetha | lakṣmīvān: the illustrious | hanumān: Hanuma | mārutātmajaḥ: the son of wind-god | cintayāmāsa: thought | navam: that a new | paribhavam: insult | kṛtam: was caused (to him) |

TRANSLATION

Hearing the words of Seetha, the illustrious Hanuma, the son of wind-god thought it to be the first insult was caused to him.

VERSE 32

न मे जानाति सत्त्वम् वा प्रभावम् वा असित ईक्षणा
तस्मात् पश्यतु वैदेही यत् रूपम् मम कामतः

na me jānāti sattvam vā prabhāvam vā asita īkṣaṇā
tasmāt paśyatu vaidehī yat rūpam mama kāmataḥ

TRANSLATION

(Hanuma said to himself); "The black-eyed Seetha is not aware of my strength or power. That is why, let her see the form I can assume at will."

VERSE 33

इति संचिन्त्य हनुमान् तदा प्लवग सत्तमः
दर्शयामास वैदेह्याः स्वरूपम् अरि मर्दनः

iti saṃcintya hanumān tadā plavaga sattamaḥ
darśayāmāsa vaidehyāḥ svarūpam ari mardanaḥ

Hanuma, the best of monkeys and the annihilator of enemies, thinking in this way, then showed his peculiarity to Seetha.

VERSE 34

स तस्मात् पादपात् धीमान् आप्लुत्य प्लवग ऋषभः
ततो वर्धितुम् आरेभे सीता प्रत्यय कारणात्

sa tasmāt pādapāt dhīmān āplutya plavaga ṛṣabhaḥ
tato vardhitum ārebhe sītā pratyaya kāraṇāt

SYNONYMS

saḥ: that Hanuma | dhīmān: the intelligent | plavagarṣabhaḥ: and the excellent of monkeys | āplutya: jumped down | tasmāt pādapāt: from that tree | tataḥ: and then | sītāpratyayakāraṇāt: to creat confidence in Seetha | ārebhe: started | vardhitum: to increase (his body). |

TRANSLATION

Hanuma, the intelligent and the excellent of monkeys, leaped down from that tree and then, to create confidence in Seetha, started to increase his body-form.

VERSE 35

मेरु मन्दार सम्काशो बभौ दीप्त अनल प्रभः
अग्रतो व्यवतस्थे च सीताया वानर ऋषभः

meru mandāra samkāśo babhau dīpta anala prabhaḥ
agrato vyavatasthe ca sītāyā vānara ṛṣabhaḥ

SYNONYMS

vānarottomaḥ: Hanuma | babhau: flashed | meru mandarasamkāśaḥ: like Meru and Mandara mountains | dīptānalaprabhaḥ: shinning brightly like a blazing fire | vyavabastheca: (He) stood too | agrataḥ: in front | sītāyāḥ: of Seetha. |

TRANSLATION

Hanuma, the foremost of monkeys, flashed like Meru and Mandara mountains, shining brightly like a blazing fire. He thus stood too in front of Seetha.

VERSE 36

हरिः पर्वत सम्काशः ताम्र वक्त्रो महाबलः
वज्र दम्ष्ट्र नखो भीमो वैदेहीम् इदम् अब्रवीत्

hariḥ parvata samkāśaḥ tāmra vaktro mahābalaḥ
vajra damṣṭra nakho bhīmo vaidehīm idam abravīt

SYNONYMS

TRANSLATION

The mighty Hanuma, resembling a mountain, having a red face, having teeth and nails as hard as adamant and terrific in appearance, spoke the following words to Seetha.

VERSE 37

सपर्वत वन उद्देशाम् साट्ट प्राकार तोरणाम्
लन्काम् इमाम् सनथाम् वा नयितुम् शक्तिः अस्ति मे

saparvata vana uddeśām sāṭṭa prākāra toraṇām
lankām imām sanathām vā nayitum śaktiḥ asti me

SYNONYMS

me: to me | asti: there is | śaktiḥ: capability | nayitum: to carry | immam: this | laṅkām vā: Lanka | saparvatavanoddeśām: along with its hills and forest-areas | sāṭṭa prākāra toraṇām: together with its market-places | sanāthām: and its Lord Ravana. |

TRANSLATION

"To me, there is capability to carry this Lanka along with its hills, forest-areas, market-places, defensive walls and arches together with its Lord Ravana himself."

VERSE 38

तत् अवस्थाप्य ताम् बुद्धिः अलम् देवि विकान्क्षया
विशोकम् कुरु वैदेहि राघवम् सह लक्ष्मणम्

tat avasthāpya tām buddhiḥ alam devi vikānkṣayā
viśokam kuru vaidehi rāghavam saha lakṣmaṇam

SYNONYMS

devi: O princess! | tat: for that reason | alam: enough | vikāṅkaṣayā: of your suspicion | buddhiḥ avasthāpyatām: let your mind be steady | vaidehi: O Seetha! | kuru: make | rāghavam: Rama | sahakakṣmaṇam: along with Lakshmana | viśokam: bereft of grief. |

TRANSLATION

"O princess! For this reason, leave your suspicion and keep you mind steady. Come along with me and make Rama and Lakshmana bereft of grief."

VERSE 39

तम् दृष्ट्वा अचल सम्काशम् उवाच जनक आत्मजा
पद्म पत्र विशाल अक्षी मारुतस्य औरसम् सुतम्

tam dṛṣṭvā acala samkāśam uvāca janaka ātmajā
padma patra viśāla akṣī mārutasya aurasam sutam

Seetha, with her large eyes resembling lotus-petals, spoke to that terrific Hanuma, the son of wind-god (as follows)

VERSE 40

तव सत्त्वम् बलम् चैव विजानामि महाकपे
वायोः इव गतिम् च अपि तेजः च अग्निः इव अद्भुतम्

tava sattvam balam caiva vijānāmi mahākape
vāyoḥ iva gatim ca api tejaḥ ca agniḥ iva adbhutam

SYNONYMS

mahākape: o great monkey! | vijānāmi: I know | tava: you | sattvam: courage | balamcaiva: strength | gatim: power of movement | vāyoriva: like that of wind | adbhutam: wonderful | tejaśca: brilliance | agneriva: like that of fire. |

TRANSLATION

"O great monkey! I know fully well your courage, strength, your power of movement like that of the wind and your wonderful brilliance like that of the fire."

VERSE 41

प्राकृतो अन्यः कथम् च इमाम् भूमिम् आगन्तुम् अर्हति
उदधेः अप्रमेयस्य पारम् वानर पुम्गव

prākṛto anyaḥ katham ca imām bhūmim āgantum arhati
udadheḥ aprameyasya pāram vānara pumgava

SYNONYMS

vānara puṅgava: O the best of monkeys! | katham: how | prākṛtaḥ anyaḥ: can any other common person | arhati: be fit | pāram: (to reach) this shore | aprameyasya udadheḥ: of the unfathomable ocean | āgantam: and to come | imām: to this | bhūmim: place? |

TRANSLATION

"O the best of monkeys! How can any other common person cross this unfathomable ocean and reach this place?"

VERSE 42

जानामि गमने शक्तिम् नयने च अपि ते मम
अवश्यम् साम्प्रधार्य आशु कार्य सिद्धिः इह आत्मनः

jānāmi gamane śaktim nayane ca api te mama
avaśyam sāmpradhārya āśu kārya siddhiḥ iha ātmanaḥ

SYNONYMS

jānāmi: I know | śaktim: your capacity | gamane: in going | mama: and in my | nayane: carrying | avaśyam sampradhāryā: It is surely determinable | āśu: quickly | kāryasiddhiḥ: about the accomplishment of work | mahātmanaḥ: by the high-souled Rama. |

TRANSLATION

"I know your capacity of carrying and taking me from here. However, we have to determine soon whether the accomplishment of work by the high souled Rama would not thus get spoiled."

VERSE 43

अयुक्तम् तु कपि श्रेष्ठ मया गन्तुम् त्वया सह
वायु वेग सवेगस्य वेगो माम् मोहयेत् तव

ayuktam tu kapi śreṣṭha mayā gantum tvayā saha
vāyu vega savegasya vego mām mohayet tava

SYNONYMS

anagha: O the faultless one! | kapiśreṣṭha: O the excellent of monkeys! | ayuktam: It is not proper | mama: for me | gantum: to go | tvayā: with you | tava: your | vegaḥ: speed | vāyuvega savegasya: resembling winds speed | mohayet: may bewilder | mām: me. |

TRANSLATION

"O the faultless one! O the excellent of monkeys! It is not befitting of me to go with you. For, your speed resembling the winds speed, may bewilder my mind."

VERSE 44

अहम् आकाशम् आसक्ता उपरि उपरि सागरम्
प्रपतेयम् हि ते पृष्ठात् भयात् वेगेन गच्छतः

aham ākāśam āsaktā upari upari sāgaram
prapateyam hi te pṛṣṭhāt bhayāt vegena gacchataḥ

SYNONYMS

aham: I | āpannā: reaching | ākāśam: the sky | sāgaram uparyupari: high above the sea | prapateyam: will fall down | bhayāt: out of fear | pṛṣṭhāt: from the back | te: of you | gacchataḥ: who are going | vegena: speed." |

TRANSLATION

"Reaching the sky high above the sea, I will fall down out of fear from your back even as you sweep with speed."

VERSE 45

पतिता सागरे च अहम् तिमि नक्र झष आकुले
भयेयम् आशु विवशा यादसाम् अन्नम् उत्तमम्

patitā sāgare ca aham timi nakra jhaṣa ākule
bhayeyam āśu vivaśā yādasām annam uttamam

SYNONYMS

aham: I | patitā: having fallen | vivaśā: insensible | sāgare: into the sea | timi nakra jhaṣākule: filled with sharks | bhaveyam: may become | uttamam: the best | annam: food | āśu: soon | yādasām: for the aquatic creatures. |

TRANSLATION

"Having fallen insensible into the sea, which is filled with sharks, crocodiles and giant fish, I may become the best food soon for the aquatic creatures."

VERSE 46

न च शक्ष्ये त्वया सार्धम् गन्तुम् शत्रु विनाशन
कलत्रवति संदेहः त्वयि अपि स्यात् असंशयम्

na ca śakṣye tvayā sārdham gantum śatru vināśana
kalatravati saṃdehaḥ tvayi api syāt asaṃśayam

SYNONYMS

śatruvināśana: O Hanuma the annihilator of enemies! | na śakṣye ca: It is not possible for me | gantum: to go | tvayā sārtham: along with you | syāt: there will be | samdehaḥ: a risk | tvayyapi: too for you | ka ḻatravati: having a lady to protect | asamśayaḥ: there is no doubt. |

TRANSLATION

"O Hanuma the annihilator of enemies! It is not possible for me to go with you. There will also be a risk for you, having me a lady additionally to protect. There is no doubt."

VERSE 47

ह्रियमाणाम् तु माम् दृष्ट्वा राक्षसा भीम विक्रमाः
अनुगच्छेयुः आदिष्टा रावणेन दुरात्मना

hriyamāṇām tu mām dṛṣṭvā rākṣasā bhīma vikramāḥ
anugaccheyuḥ ādiṣṭā rāvaṇena durātmanā

SYNONYMS

dṛṣṭvā: seeing | mām: me | hriyamāṇām: being taken away | rākṣasāḥ: the demons | bhīma vikramāḥ: with their terrific prowess | ādiṣṭāh: ordered | rāvaṇena durātmanāḥ: the evil minded Ravana | anugaccheyuḥ: will follow. |

TRANSLATION

"Seeing me being taken away by you, the demons of terrific prowess, incited by the evil-minded Ravana, will follow you."

VERSE 48

तैः त्वम् परिवृतः शूरैः शूलम् उद्गर पाणिभिः
भवेः त्वम् संशयम् प्राप्तो मया वीर कलत्रवान्

taiḥ tvam parivṛtaḥ śūraiḥ śūlam udgara pāṇibhiḥ
bhaveḥ tvam saṃśayam prāpto mayā vīra kalatravān

SYNONYMS

vīra: O brave monkey! tvam = you | parivṛtaḥ: will be surrounded | taiḥ śūraiḥ: by those valiant demons | śūla mudgara pāṇibhiḥ: wielding darts and clubs in their hands | kaḻatravān: (Accompanied) by a lady | mayā: in me | tvam bhaveḥ: you will be | praptaḥ: getting | samśayam: a risk. |

TRANSLATION

"O brave monkey! Those valiant demons wielding darts and clubs in their hands will surround you. Accompanied by a lady in me, you will be at a risk."

VERSE 49

सायुधा बहवो व्योम्नि राक्षसाः त्वम् निरायुधः
कथम् शक्ष्यसि सम्यातुम् माम् चैव परिरक्षितुम्

sāyudhā bahavo vyomni rākṣasāḥ tvam nirāyudhaḥ
katham śakṣyasi samyātum mām caiva parirakṣitum

SYNONYMS

bahavaḥ: Many | rākṣasāḥ: demons (will come) | sāyudhāḥ: with their weapons | vyomni: in the sky | tvam: you | nirāyudhaḥ: will be without weapons | katham: how | śakṣyasi: will you be capable | samyātum: of travelling | parirakṣitumca: and protecting | mām: me? |

TRANSLATION

"Many demons will come with their weapons, in the sky. You will be alone without any weapon. How can you continue your travel, while protecting me?"

VERSE 50

युध्यमानस्य रक्षोभिः ततः तैः क्रूर कर्मभिः
प्रपतेयम् हि ते पृष्ठत् भय आर्ता कपि सत्तम

yudhyamānasya rakṣobhiḥ tataḥ taiḥ krūra karmabhiḥ
prapateyam hi te pṛṣṭhat bhaya ārtā kapi sattama

SYNONYMS

kapisattama: O the best of monkeys! | tava: (While) you | yuddhyamānasya: will be resorting to battle | taiḥ rakṣobhiḥ: with those demons | krūra karmabhiḥ: who perform cruel acts | bhayārtā: becoming frightened | prapateyam hi: I will indeed fall down | te pṛṣṭhāt: from your back. |

TRANSLATION

"O the best of monkeys! While you will be resorting to battle with those demons, who perform cruel acts, I, stricken with fear, may fall down from your back."

VERSE 51

अथ रक्षांसि भीमानि महान्ति बलवन्ति च
कथंचित् साम्पराये त्वाम् जयेयुः कपि सत्तम

atha rakṣāṃsi bhīmāni mahānti balavanti ca
kathaṃcit sāmparāye tvām jayeyuḥ kapi sattama

SYNONYMS

kapisattama: O the excellent of monkeys! | atha: thereafter | rakṣāmsi: the demons | bhīmāni: of fearful form | mahānti: with their giant bodies | balavantica: and powerful ones | jayeyuḥ: will conquer | tvām: you | sāmparāye: in battle | kathamcit: somehow or other. |

TRANSLATION

"O excellent of monkeys! Then the powerful and terrific demons with their giant bodies will conquer you in battle, somehow or other."

VERSE 52

अथवा युध्यमानस्य पतेयम् विमुखस्य ते
पतिताम् च गृहीत्वा माम् नयेयुः पाप राक्षसाः

athavā yudhyamānasya pateyam vimukhasya te
patitām ca gṛhītvā mām nayeyuḥ pāpa rākṣasāḥ

SYNONYMS

athavā: otherwise | te: (while) you | vimukhasya: are indifferent of me | yudhyamānasya: and resort to the battle | pateyam: I may fall down | pāparākṣasāḥ: the wicked demons | gṛhītvā: catching hold | mām: of me | patitām: fallen | nayeyuḥ: may take me away. |

TRANSLATION

"Otherwise, if you are indifferent of me and resort to battle, I may eventually fall down. Then, the wicked demons, catching hold of me fallen, may take me again to Lanka."

VERSE 53

माम् वा हरेयुः त्वद्त् हस्तात् विशसेयुः अथ अपि वा
अव्यवस्थौ हि दृश्येते युद्धे जय पराजयौ

mām vā hareyuḥ tvadt hastāt viśaseyuḥ atha api vā
avyavasthau hi dṛśyete yuddhe jaya parājayau

SYNONYMS

mām hareyuḥ: (or) they may take me awa | tvaddhastāt: from your hand | : or | viśaseyuḥ: or may even kill (me) | yuddhe: In battle | jayāpajayau: victory and defeat | dṛśyete hi: indeed are being seen | avyavasthau: as unsettled. |

TRANSLATION

"Or they may take me away from your hand, or may even kill me. In battle, victory and defeat are perceived as uncertain."

VERSE 54

अहम् वा अपि विपद्येयम् रक्षोभिः अभितर्जिता
त्वत् प्रयत्नो हरि श्रेष्ठ भवेन् निष्फल एव तु

aham vā api vipadyeyam rakṣobhiḥ abhitarjitā
tvat prayatno hari śreṣṭha bhaven niṣphala eva tu

SYNONYMS

hariśreṣṭha: O the best of monkeys! | : or | aham: (while) I | abhitarjitā: am frightened | rakṣobhih: by the demons | vipadyeyam api: I may get into a calamity | tvatprayatnaḥ: your effort | bhavet: will become | niṣphala eva tu: futile indeed. |

TRANSLATION

"O the best of monkeys! Or while I am frightened by the demons, I may get into a mishap. Thus, your effort may become futile indeed!"

VERSE 55

कामम् त्वम् अपि पर्याप्तो निहन्तुम् सर्व राक्षसान्
राघवस्य यशो हीयेत् त्वया शस्तैः तु राक्षसैः

kāmam tvam api paryāpto nihantum sarva rākṣasān
rāghavasya yaśo hīyet tvayā śastaiḥ tu rākṣasaiḥ

SYNONYMS

tvam: you | paryāptaḥ asi kāmam: may be surely sufficient | nihantum: to kill | sarva rākṣasān: all the demons | rākṣasaiḥ: all by the demons | śastaiḥ: killed | tvayā: by you | rāghavasya: Rama's yashaH = celebrity | hīyeti: will be lowered. |

TRANSLATION

"You may be surely able to kill all the demons. But if you alone kill all the demons, Rama's celebrity will be lowered."

VERSE 56

अथवा आदाय रक्षांसि न्यस्येयुः सम्वृते हि माम्
यत्र ते न अभिजानीयुः हरयो न अपि राघवः

athavā ādāya rakṣāṃsi nyasyeyuḥ samvṛte hi mām
yatra te na abhijānīyuḥ harayo na api rāghavaḥ

SYNONYMS

athavā: otherwise | rakṣāmsi: the demons | ādāya: after having taken | mām: me | nyaseyuḥ: may keep | yatra samvṛte: in which secret place | nābhijānīyuḥ: that will not be known | te harayaḥ: to those monkeys | rāghavau'pi: or even to Rama and Lakshmana. |

TRANSLATION

"Otherwise, the demons may take me away and hide me in any secret place that will not be known by those monkeys or even Rama and Lakshmana."

VERSE 57

आरम्भः तु मत् अर्थो अयम् ततः तव निरर्थकः
त्वया हि सह रामस्य महान् आगमने गुणः

ārambhaḥ tu mat artho ayam tataḥ tava nirarthakaḥ
tvayā hi saha rāmasya mahān āgamane guṇaḥ

SYNONYMS

tataḥ: then | tava: your | ārabhastu: effort | madarthaḥ: taken for my sake | nivarthakaḥ: will become futile | mahān: there is a great | guṇaḥ: merit | āgamane: in coming | rāmasya: of Rama | tvayā saha: along with you. |

TRANSLATION

"Then your effort taken for my sake will become futile. That is why there is a great merit in Rama's coming here along with you."

VERSE 58

मयि जीवितम् आयत्तम् राघवस्य महात्मनः
भ्रातृऋणाम् च महाबाहो तव राज कुलस्य च

mayi jīvitam āyattam rāghavasya mahātmanaḥ
bhrātṛṛṇām ca mahābāho tava rāja kulasya ca

SYNONYMS

mahābāho: O the long armed monkey! | jīvitam: the survival | mahātmanaḥ: raaghavasya = of the high souled Rama | bhrātrūṇām: (of) his brothers | tava: of yourself | rājakulasyaca: of your royal family | āyattam: is dependent | mayi: on me. |

TRANSLATION

"O Hanuma the long-armed! The survival of the high souled Rama, his brothers, of yourself and of your royal family (of Sugreeva) is dependent on me."

VERSE 59

तौ निराशौ मत् अर्थे तु शोक सम्ताप कर्शितौ
सह सर्व ऋक्ष हरिभिः त्यक्ष्यतः प्राण सम्ग्रहम्

tau nirāśau mat arthe tu śoka samtāpa karśitau
saha sarva ṛkṣa haribhiḥ tyakṣyataḥ prāṇa samgraham

SYNONYMS

tau: those two men Rama and Lakshmana | śokasamtāpa karśitau: who are emaciated by grief and anguish | sarvarkṣaharibhiḥ saha: with all bears and monkeys | nirāśau: bereft of hope | tyakṣyataḥ: will abandon | prāṇasamgraham: their protection of life. |

TRANSLATION

"Those two men Rama and Lakshmana who are emaciated by grief and anguish along with all bears and monkeys, losing their hope, will abandon their lives."

VERSE 60

भर्तुः भक्तिम् पुरः कृत्य रामात् अन्यस्य वानर
न अहम् स्प्रष्टुम् पदा गात्रम् इच्छेयम् वानर उत्तम

bhartuḥ bhaktim puraḥ kṛtya rāmāt anyasya vānara
na aham spraṣṭum padā gātram iccheyam vānara uttama

SYNONYMS

vānara: O Hanuma | vānarapuṇgava: thes best of monkeys | puraskṛtya: Honouring | bhaktim: the devotion | bhartuḥ: to my husband | na spṛśāmi: I can not touch | śarīramtu: the body | anyasya pumsaḥ: of any other man | rāmāt: than Rama. |

TRANSLATION

"O Hanuma, the best of monkeys! Honouring the devotion to my husband, I cannot touch the body of any man other that of Rama."

VERSE 61

यत् अहम् गात्र संस्पर्शम् रावणस्य गता बलात्
अनीशा किम् करिष्यामि विनाथा विवशा सती

yat aham gātra saṃsparśam rāvaṇasya gatā balāt
anīśā kim kariṣyāmi vināthā vivaśā satī

SYNONYMS

aham gatāyat: that I got | balāt: by force | samsparśam: the touch | rāvaṇasya gātra: of Ravana's body | kim kariṣyāmi: what can I do | anīśā: being helpless | vivaśā satī: having lost control of myself | vināthā: and without a protector? |

TRANSLATION

"That I got, by force, the touch of Ravana's body, was because being helpless, having lost control of myself and without a protector, I could not do anything."

VERSE 62

यदि रामो दशग्रीवम् इह हत्वा सराक्षसम्
माम् इतो गृह्य गच्छेत तत् तस्य सदृशम् भवेत्

yadi rāmo daśagrīvam iha hatvā sarākṣasam
mām ito gṛhya gaccheta tat tasya sadṛśam bhavet

SYNONYMS

rāmaḥ yadi: If Rama | hattvā: by killing | daśagrīvam: Ravana | iha: here | sabāndhavam: along with his relatives | gacheta: and goes taking | mām: me | itaḥ: from here | tat: that | bhavet: will become | sadṛśam: proper | tasya: for him. |

TRANSLATION

"If Rama kills Ravana here along with his relatives and departs taking me from here, it would be proper for him"

VERSE 63

श्रुता हि दृष्टाः च मया पराक्रमा
महात्मनः तस्य रण अवमर्दिनः
न देव गन्धर्व भुजम्ग राक्षसा
भवन्ति रामेण समा हि सम्युगे

śrutā hi dṛṣṭāḥ ca mayā parākramā
mahātmanaḥ tasya raṇa avamardinaḥ
na deva gandharva bhujamga rākṣasā
bhavanti rāmeṇa samā hi samyuge

SYNONYMS

śrutāḥ: It was heard | dṛṣṭāśca: and seen | mayā: by me | parākramāḥ (about) the strength tasya: mahaatmanaH = of the high souled Rama | raṇāvamardinaḥ: destroying enemies in battle | deva gandharva bhujaṇga rākṣasāḥ: the celestials | nahi samāḥ: are not equal | rāmeṇa: to Rama | samguge: in combat. |

TRANSLATION

"I have not only heard but seen myself about the strength of the high souled Rama destroying enemies in battle. Neither the celestials nor the divine musicians nor the serpent-gods nor the demons are equal to Rama in combat."

VERSE 64

समीक्ष्य तम् सम्यति चित्र कार्मुकम्
महाबलम् वासव तुल्य विक्रमम्
सलक्ष्मणम् को विषहेत राघवम्
हुत अशनम् दीप्तम् इव अनिल ईरितम्

samīkṣya tam samyati citra kārmukam
mahābalam vāsava tulya vikramam
salakṣmaṇam ko viṣaheta rāghavam
huta aśanam dīptam iva anila īritam

TRANSLATION

"Who can withstand seeing in battle that mighty Rama, dazzling like fire fanned by wind, wielding his conspicuous bow and having prowess equal to that of Indra the Lord of celestials, together with Lakshmana?"

VERSE 65

सलक्ष्मणम् राघवम् आजि मर्दनम्
दिशा गजम् मत्तम् इव व्यवस्थितम्
सहेत को वानर मुख्य सम्युगे
युग अन्त सूर्य प्रतिमम् शर अर्चिषम्

salakṣmaṇam rāghavam āji mardanam
diśā gajam mattam iva vyavasthitam
saheta ko vānara mukhya samyuge
yuga anta sūrya pratimam śara arciṣam

TRANSLATION

"O the best of monkeys! In battle, who can endure Rama resembling the sun at noon-time, with his arrows resembling its rays, the destroyer in battle, stationed like a mythical elephant in rut, along with Lakshmana?

VERSE 66

इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे आदिकाव्ये सुन्दरकाण्डे सप्तत्रिंशः सर्गः

ityārṣe śrīmadrāmāyaṇe ādikāvye sundarakāṇḍe saptatriṃśaḥ sargaḥ

TRANSLATION

"O the excellent of monkeys! You, as such, soon bring my husband here along with Lakshmana, and the chiefs of army. O the best of monkeys! I am emaciated with grief about Rama since long. Make me now joyful."
