VERSE 1

एवम् श्रुत्वा तु सम्वादम् लक्ष्मणः पूर्वमागतः
बाष्पपर्याकुलमुखः शोकम् सोढुमशक्नुवन्

evam śrutvā tu samvādam lakṣmaṇaḥ pūrvamāgataḥ
bāṣpaparyākulamukhaḥ śokam soḍhumaśaknuvan

TRANSLATION

Lakshmana who came there earlier, heard the conversation of Seetha and Rama, having his eyes glut with tears, being unable to bear the anguish, tightly pressed the feet of his bother and spoke (as floows) to Rama who was performing a great vow and to Seetha who enjoyed great honour.

VERSE 3

यदि गन्तुम् कृता बुद्धिर्वनम् मृगगजायुतम्
अहम् त्वानुगमिष्यामि वनमद्रे धनुर्धरः

yadi gantum kṛtā buddhirvanam mṛgagajāyutam
aham tvānugamiṣyāmi vanamadre dhanurdharaḥ

TRANSLATION

"If you decided to go to the forest filled with antelopes and elephants, I, in front wearingthe bow, shall accompany you to the forest."

VERSE 4

मया समेतो।अरण्यानि बहूनि विचरिष्यसि
पक्षिभिर्मृगयूथैश्च सम्घुष्टानि समन्ततः

mayā sameto|araṇyāni bahūni vicariṣyasi
pakṣibhirmṛgayūthaiśca samghuṣṭāni samantataḥ

SYNONYMS

sametaḥ: together | mayā: with me | vicariṣyasi: you will travel | bahūni araṇyāni: in many forests | samghuṣṭāni: resonant | samastataḥ: of all | pakṣibhiḥ: birds | mṛgayūthaiḥ: and troops of wild animals. |

TRANSLATION

"Together with me, you will travel in the various forests, resonant with sounds of birds and herds of wild animals."

VERSE 5

न देवलोकाक्रमणम् नामरत्वमहम् वृणे
ऐश्वर्यम् वापि लोकानाम् कामये न त्वया विना

na devalokākramaṇam nāmaratvamaham vṛṇe
aiśvaryam vāpi lokānām kāmaye na tvayā vinā

SYNONYMS

tvayā vinā: without you | aham: I | navṛṇe: do not want | devalokakramaṇam: ascendency to heaven | na: nor desiring | amaratvam: immortality | na kāmaye: now wishing | aiśvaryam vāpi: even sovereignity | lokānām: over the globes. |

TRANSLATION

"Without you, I do not want ascendency to heaven now do I desire immortality now do I wish for sovereignity over the globes."

VERSE 6

एवम् ब्रुवाणः सौमित्रिर्विनवासाय निश्चितः
रामेण बहुभिः सान्वैर्निषिद्धः पुनरब्रवीत्

evam bruvāṇaḥ saumitrirvinavāsāya niścitaḥ
rāmeṇa bahubhiḥ sānvairniṣiddhaḥ punarabravīt

SYNONYMS

saumitriḥ: Lakshmana | bruvāṇaḥ: who was speaking | evam: thus | niścitaḥ: determined | vanavāsāya: to dwell in the forest | niṣiddhaḥ: was forbidden | rāmeṇa: by Rama | bahubhiḥ sāntvaiḥ: through many pacifying words | punaḥ: again | abravīt: spoke. |

TRANSLATION

Lakshmana who was speaking in favour of coming to the forst, was forbidden by Rama through many of his pacifying words. After hearing them, Lakshmana again soke as follows:

VERSE 7

अनुज्ञातश्च भवता पूर्वमेव यदस्म्यहम्
किमिदानीम् पुनरिदम् क्रियते मे निवारणम्

anujñātaśca bhavatā pūrvameva yadasmyaham
kimidānīm punaridam kriyate me nivāraṇam

SYNONYMS

aham: I | asmiyat: am indeed | anujñātaḥ: permitted | bhavatā: by you | pūrvameva: even earlier | idānīm: now | kim: why | punaḥ: again | idam: this | nivāraṇam: hindrance | kriyate: is being done? |

TRANSLATION

"I was indeed permitted by you earlier. How is it that you are prohibiting me now?"

VERSE 8

यदर्थम् प्रतिषेधो मे क्रियते गन्तुमिच्छतः
एतदिच्छामि विज्ञातुम् संशयो हि ममानघ

yadartham pratiṣedho me kriyate gantumicchataḥ
etadicchāmi vijñātum saṃśayo hi mamānagha

SYNONYMS

anagha: Oh | the faultless man! icchāmi: I desire | vijñātum: to know | yadartham: for what reason | pratiṣedhaḥ: prohibition | kriyate: is done | etat: at this time | me: in me. | ichataḥ: who is willing | gautum: to go | samśayaḥ hi: there is indeed doubt |

TRANSLATION

"Oh, the faultless man! I desire to know the reason for prohibiting me, who is indeed willing to come to the forest, because there is doubt in my mind."

VERSE 9

ततः अब्रवीन् महा तेजा रामः लक्ष्मणम् अग्रतः
स्थितम् प्राग् गामिनम् वीरम् याचमानम् कृत अन्जलिम्

tataḥ abravīn mahā tejā rāmaḥ lakṣmaṇam agrataḥ
sthitam prāg gāminam vīram yācamānam kṛta anjalim

SYNONYMS

tataḥ: thenafter | rāmaḥ: Rama | mahātejāḥ: of great splendour | abravīt: spoke | lakṣmaṇam: to Lakshmana | sthitam: standing | agrataḥ: in front | prāggāminam: intending to go before | vīram: the valiant man | yācamānam: soliciting | kṛtāṇjalim: with joined palms. |

TRANSLATION

Thereafter Rama of great splendour spoke to Lakshmana the valiant man who was standing in front, intending to preceede Sri Rama and soliciting with joined palms.

VERSE 10

स्निग्धो धर्मरतो वीरस्सततम् सत्पथे स्थितः
प्रियः प्राणसमो वशो भ्राता चापि सखा च मे

snigdho dharmarato vīrassatatam satpathe sthitaḥ
priyaḥ prāṇasamo vaśo bhrātā cāpi sakhā ca me

SYNONYMS

snigdhaḥ: friendly | dharmarataḥ: interested in righeousness | vīraḥ: valiant | sthitaḥ: always | satpathe: in good path | priyaḥ: the beloved one | prāṇa samaḥ: as dear as life | vaśyaḥ: obedient | bhrātrācāpi: the brother | sakhāca: and a companion. |

TRANSLATION

"You are so friendly, interested in righteousness, valiant, abiding always in a good path, dear to me as life, obedient, my brother and a companion."

VERSE 11

मया अद्य सह सौमित्रे त्वयि गच्चति तत् वनम्
को भरिष्यति कौसल्याम् सुमित्राम् वा यशस्विनीम्

mayā adya saha saumitre tvayi gaccati tat vanam
ko bhariṣyati kausalyām sumitrām vā yaśasvinīm

SYNONYMS

saumitre: Oh | ḻakśmana! tvayi: you | gacchati: having proceeded | tatvanam: to that forest | mayā saha: along with me | adya: now | kaḥ: who | bhariṣyati: will support | kausalyām: Kausalaya | sumitrām vā: or Sumira | yaśaśivinīm: the illustrious. |

TRANSLATION

"Oh Lakshmana! If you proceed to the forest along with me now, who will support Kausalya or the illustrious Sumitra?"

VERSE 12

अभिवर्षति कामैः यः पर्जन्यः पृथिवीम् इव
स काम पाश पर्यस्तः महा तेजा मही पतिः

abhivarṣati kāmaiḥ yaḥ parjanyaḥ pṛthivīm iva
sa kāma pāśa paryastaḥ mahā tejā mahī patiḥ

SYNONYMS

yaḥ: which | mahīpatiḥ: emporor | mahātejaḥ: of great splendour | abhivarṣati: used to shower | kāmaiḥ: objects of desire | parjanyaḥ iva: as a cloud | pṛthivīm: to the earth | saḥ: he | kāmapāśaparyantaḥ: stands circumscribed by cord of love. |

TRANSLATION

"That emperor of great splendour, who used to shower blessings on the people as a cloud sends down rain on the earth, stands circumscribed by cord of love."

VERSE 13

सा हि राज्यम् इदम् प्राप्य नृपस्य अश्व पतेः सुता
दुह्खितानाम् सपत्नीनाम् न करिष्यति शोभनम्

sā hi rājyam idam prāpya nṛpasya aśva pateḥ sutā
duhkhitānām sapatnīnām na kariṣyati śobhanam

SYNONYMS

: that Kaikeyi | sutā: daughter | nṛpasya: of king | aśvapateḥ: Aswapathi | prāpya: after getting | idam rājyam: this kingdom | na kariṣyati hi: will certainly not accord | śobhanam: good treatment | sapatnīnām: to step-wives | duḥkhitānām: who are at grief. |

TRANSLATION

"That Kaikeyi daughter of king Aswapathi, after obtaining this kingdom, will certainly not accord good treatment to her step-wives, who are at grief."

VERSE 14

न स्मरिष्यति कौसल्याम् सुमित्राम् च सुदुःखिताम्
भरतो राज्यमासाद्य कैकेय्याम् पर्यवस्थितः

na smariṣyati kausalyām sumitrām ca suduḥkhitām
bharato rājyamāsādya kaikeyyām paryavasthitaḥ

SYNONYMS

bharataḥ: Bharata | āsādya: obtaining | rājyamm: the kingdom | paryavasthitaḥ: will be devoted | kaikeyyām: to Kaikeyi | na smariṣyati: will not think | kausalyām: of Kausalya | suduḥkhitām: who is in great sorrow | sumitrāmeha: and Sumitra. |

TRANSLATION

"Bharata on acquiring the kingdom will be devoted to Kaikeyi and will not think of sorrowful Kausalya or Sumitra."

VERSE 15

तामार्याम् स्वयमेवेह राजा।अनुग्रहणेन वा
सौमित्रे भर कौसल्या मुक्तमर्थमिमम् चर

tāmāryām svayameveha rājā|anugrahaṇena vā
saumitre bhara kausalyā muktamarthamimam cara

SYNONYMS

saumitre: Oh | ḻakśmana! iha: you stay here | bhara: support | svayameva: through your own salf | rājānugraheṇa: or by obtaining favour through the king | tām kausalyām: that Kausalya | āryām: the venerable lady | cara: do | imam: this | artham: thing | uktam: as said. |

TRANSLATION

"Oh, Lakshmana! You stay here and support the venerable Kausalya through your own self or by obtaining favour through the king. Do this thing, as said."

VERSE 16

एवम् मम च ते भक्तिर्भविष्यति सुदर्शिता
धर्मज्ञ गुरुपूजायाम् धर्मश्चाप्यतुलो महान्

evam mama ca te bhaktirbhaviṣyati sudarśitā
dharmajña gurupūjāyām dharmaścāpyatulo mahān

SYNONYMS

dharmajñā: Oh | knover of righteousness! evam: thus | te: your | bhaktiḥ: devotion | mama: towards me | bhaviṣyati: will be | sudarśitā: well demonstrated | gurupūjāyām: by honouring the elders | atulaḥ: unequalled | dharmaśca: religious merit(will accrue). |

TRANSLATION

"Oh, Lakshmana the knower of righteousness! Thus, your devotion towards me will have been fully demonstrated by you. By honouring the elders, a great unqualled religious merit will accrue to you."

VERSE 17

एवम् कुरुष्व सौमित्रे मत्क्र्^ते रघुनन्दन
अस्माभिर्विप्रहीनाया मातुर्नो न भवेत्सुखम्

evam kuruṣva saumitre matkr^te raghunandana
asmābhirviprahīnāyā māturno na bhavetsukham

SYNONYMS

saumitre: OH | raghunandana: who exhilarates Raghu dynasty | kuruṣva: do | evam: thus | matkṛte: for my sake | na bhavet: there will be no | sukham: happiness | naḥ: bye us. | viprahīnāyāḥ: who is left behind |

TRANSLATION

"Oh, Lakshmana, the exhilarator of Raghu dynasty! Do this for my sake. There will be no happiness to our mother, if she is left behind by us."

VERSE 18

एवम् उक्तः तु रामेण लक्ष्मणः श्लक्ष्णया गिरा
प्रत्युवाच तदा रामम् वाक्यज्ञो वाक्य कोविदम्

evam uktaḥ tu rāmeṇa lakṣmaṇaḥ ślakṣṇayā girā
pratyuvāca tadā rāmam vākyajño vākya kovidam

SYNONYMS

lakśmaṇaḥ: Lakshmana | vākyājñaḥ: who is intelligent in speech | uktaḥ: who was spoken | evam: thus | rāmeṇa: by Rama | pratyuvāca: replied | tadā: then | girā: with the voice | ślakṣṇayā: so gentle | rāmam: to Rama | vākyakovidam: who is skilled in speech. |

TRANSLATION

Lakshmana who is intelligent in speech, after hearing Rama's words, replied in a gentle voice to him who is skilled in speech.

VERSE 19

तव एव तेजसा वीर भरतः पूजयिष्यति
कौसल्याम् च सुमित्राम् च प्रयतः न अत्र संशयः

tava eva tejasā vīra bharataḥ pūjayiṣyati
kausalyām ca sumitrām ca prayataḥ na atra saṃśayaḥ

SYNONYMS

vīraḥ: Oh | ṟama the valiant! bharataḥ: Bharata | prayataḥ: being piously dispossed | tava tejasaiva: by your splendour of such a kind | pūjayiṣyati: will respect | kausalyāmena: Kausalya | sumitrāmca: and Sumitra | na: no | samśayaḥ: doubt | atra: in this matter. |

TRANSLATION

"Oh, Rama the valiant! Bharata being inspired by your splendour of morality will respect Kausalya and Sumitra. There is no doubt in this matter."

VERSE 20

कौसल्या बिभृयात् आर्या सहस्रम् अपि मद् विधान्
यस्याः सहस्रम् ग्रामाणाम् सम्प्राप्तम् उपजीवनम्

kausalyā bibhṛyāt āryā sahasram api mad vidhān
yasyāḥ sahasram grāmāṇām samprāptam upajīvanam

SYNONYMS

yasyāḥ: upon which Kausalya | sahasram: thousand | grāmāṇām: villages | samprāptam: obtained by her | upajīvinām: are living in dependence | āryā: that venerable | kausalyā: Kausalya | bibhṛyāt: can maintain | sahasramapi: even thousand | madvidhān: of my type. |

TRANSLATION

"Kausalya obtained (by grant) thousand villages , which are dependent on her. Hence, that venerable Kausalya can maintain even thousand people like me."

VERSE 21

तदात्मभरणे चैव मम मातुस्तथैव च
पर्याप्ता मद्विधानाम् च भरणाय यशस्विनी

tadātmabharaṇe caiva mama mātustathaiva ca
paryāptā madvidhānām ca bharaṇāya yaśasvinī

SYNONYMS

tat: that is why | yaśasvinī: the illustrious Kausalya | paryāptā: is competent not only | ātmabharaṇaicaiva: to maintain herself | tathaivaca: but also | mama mātuḥ: my mother | bharaṇāyaca: and the support of | madvidhānāmca: people like me. |

TRANSLATION

"The illustrious Kausalya is competent not only to maintain herself but also my mother and people like me in addition."

VERSE 22

कुरुष्व मामनुचरम् वैधर्म्यम् नेह विद्यते
कृतार्थो।अहम् भविष्यामि तव चार्थः प्रकल्पते

kuruṣva māmanucaram vaidharmyam neha vidyate
kṛtārtho|aham bhaviṣyāmi tava cārthaḥ prakalpate

SYNONYMS

kuruṣva: make | mām: me | amcaram: your attendant | iha: in this | navidyate: there is no | vaidharmyam: unlawfulness | aham: I | bhaviṣyāmi: will be | kṛtārthaḥ: accomplishing my object | tava: your | arthattca: purpose also | prakalpate: will be fulfilled. |

TRANSLATION

"Make me your attendant. In this, there is no unrighteousness. Besides, I will be accomplishing my object. Your purpose also will be fulfilled."

VERSE 23

धनुर् आदाय सशरम् खनित्र पिटका धरः
अग्रतः ते गमिष्यामि पन्थानम् अनुदर्शयन्

dhanur ādāya saśaram khanitra piṭakā dharaḥ
agrataḥ te gamiṣyāmi panthānam anudarśayan

SYNONYMS

ādāya: having taken | dhamh: the bow | saśaram: with arrows | khamitra pitakādharaḥ: carrying a spade and a basket | gamiṣyāmi: I will travel | anudarśayan: showing | panthānam: the path | agrataḥ: in front | te: of you. |

TRANSLATION

"Taking my bow and arrows and carrying a spade and a basket, I will walk in front of you showing the path."

VERSE 24

आहरिष्यामि ते नित्यम् मूलानि च फलानि च
वन्यानि यानि च अन्यानि स्वाहाराणि तपस्विनाम्

āhariṣyāmi te nityam mūlāni ca phalāni ca
vanyāni yāni ca anyāni svāhārāṇi tapasvinām

SYNONYMS

āhariṣyāmi: I will procure | te: for you | nityam: for all time | mūlāni: the tubers | phalānica: fruits | anyānica: and other things | yāni: which | svāhārāṇi: are good food stuffs | vanyāni: available in the forest | tapasvinām: for sages. |

TRANSLATION

"I will procure for you for all time the tubers, fruits and other things which are good food stuffs available in the forest for sages."

VERSE 25

भवांस् तु सह वैदेह्या गिरि सानुषु रंस्यते
अहम् सर्वम् करिष्यामि जाग्रतः स्वपतः च ते

bhavāṃs tu saha vaidehyā giri sānuṣu raṃsyate
aham sarvam kariṣyāmi jāgrataḥ svapataḥ ca te

SYNONYMS

bhavāmstu: be it so | vaidehyāsaha: along with Seetha | ramsyate: enjoy yourself | girisāmuṣu: on mountain = ridges | aham: I | kariṣyāmi: I shall do | sarvam: everything | te: (while) you | jāgrataḥ: are waking | svapataśca: or sleeping. |

TRANSLATION

"You along with Seetha enjoy yourself on mountain-ridges. I shall do everything while you are waking or sleeping."

VERSE 26

रामः तु अनेन वाक्येन सुप्रीतः प्रत्युवाच तम्
व्रज आपृच्चस्व सौमित्रे सर्वम् एव सुहृज् जनम्

rāmaḥ tu anena vākyena suprītaḥ pratyuvāca tam
vraja āpṛccasva saumitre sarvam eva suhṛj janam

SYNONYMS

rāmastu: Rama | suprītaḥ: very much delighted | anena vākyena: by these words | pratyuvāca: replied | tam: to him( as follows) | saumitre: Oh | ḻakśmana! vraja: go | āpṛcchasva: take leave | sarvameva: of all | suhṛjjanam: your friends. |

TRANSLATION

Rama, very much delighted of hearing these words, said to him: "Oh, Lakshmana! Go, take leave of all your friends."

VERSE 27

ये च राज्ञो ददौ दिव्ये महात्मा वरुणः स्वयम्
जनकस्य महा यज्ञे धनुषी रौद्र दर्शने

ye ca rājño dadau divye mahātmā varuṇaḥ svayam
janakasya mahā yajñe dhanuṣī raudra darśane

SYNONYMS

29| lakśmana: Oh | ḻakśmana! varuṇaḥ: Varuna | mahatmā: the great souled | svayam: himself | mahāyajñe: at a grand sacrifice | janakasya: of Janaka | rājñaḥ: the king | dadau: gave | ye: which | dhanuṣī: bows | divye: divine | raudra darśane: (one) dreadful to look at | abhedya kavace: impentrable pieces of armour | tūṇīca: and quivers | akṣayasāyake: containing an inexhaustible | ubhau: two | khadgau: swords | hemapariṣkṛte: decked with gold | āditya vimalau: with spotless lustre like that of a sun | etat sarvam: all these | nihitam: were kept | acārya sadmani: at the residence of our receptor | satkṛtya: after paying due reverence | ādāya: take | sarvam: all those | āyudham: arms | āvraja: (and)return | skhhipram: soon. |

TRANSLATION

"Oh, Lakshma! At a grand sacrifice perfomed by Janaka, the great-souled Varuna(god of water) personally gave heavently bows which are dreadful to look at, divine impenetrable pices of armour, quivers containing an inexhanstible stock of arms, two swords decked with gold and with spotless lustre like that of a sun - all these were kept at the residence of our receptor Vasista, after paying due reverence. Take all those arms and return soon."

VERSE 30

स सुहृज् जनम् आमन्त्र्य वन वासाय निश्चितः
इष्क्वाकु गुरुम् आमन्त्र्य जग्राह आयुधम् उत्तमम्

sa suhṛj janam āmantrya vana vāsāya niścitaḥ
iṣkvāku gurum āmantrya jagrāha āyudham uttamam

SYNONYMS

lakśmaṇaḥ: Lakshmana | niśahitaḥ: who was assured | vanavāsāya: of his sojourn in the forest | āmantrya: after bidding good bye | suhṛjjanam: to his griends | āgamya: approached | ikṣvākugurum: Vasista | garāha: took | uttamam: the excellent | āyudham: arms. |

TRANSLATION

Lakshmana, who was assured of his sojourn in the forest, after bidding good bye ot his friends, approached Vasista the preceptor of Ikshvaku dynasty and took the excellent armoury.

VERSE 31

तत् दिव्यम् राज शार्दूलः सत्कृतम् माल्य भूषितम्
रामाय दर्शयाम् आस सौमित्रिः सर्वम् आयुधम्

tat divyam rāja śārdūlaḥ satkṛtam mālya bhūṣitam
rāmāya darśayām āsa saumitriḥ sarvam āyudham

SYNONYMS

saumitriḥ: Lakshmana | rājaśārdūlaḥ: a tiger among princes | dadarśayāmāsa: showed | rāmāya: to Rama | sarvam: all | tat āyadham: those arms | divyam: which are divine | satkṛtam: which were worshipped maalya bhuushhitam = and decorated by garlands. |

TRANSLATION

Lakshmana, a tiger among princes, showed to Rama all those arms, which were divine, being worshipped and decorated by garlands.

VERSE 32

तम् उवाच आत्मवान् रामः प्रीत्या लक्ष्मणम् आगतम्
काले त्वम् आगतः सौम्य कान्क्षिते मम लक्ष्मण

tam uvāca ātmavān rāmaḥ prītyā lakṣmaṇam āgatam
kāle tvam āgataḥ saumya kānkṣite mama lakṣmaṇa

SYNONYMS

rāmaḥ: Rama | ātmavān: who has controlled his mind | prītya: affectinately | uvāca: soke(as follows) tama lakshhmaNam to Lakshmana | āgatam: who arrived | lakśmana: "Oh | ḻakśmana saumya: the excellent man! tvam = you | āgataḥ: came | kāle: in time | kāṇkṣite: as desired | mama: by me. |

TRANSLATION

Rama, who had fully controlled his mind, affectionately spoke as follows to Lakshmana who arrived: "Oh, Lakshmana, the excellent man! You came in time as desired by me."

VERSE 33

अहम् प्रदातुम् इच्चामि यद् इदम् मामकम् धनम्
ब्राह्मणेभ्यः तपस्विभ्यः त्वया सह परम्तप

aham pradātum iccāmi yad idam māmakam dhanam
brāhmaṇebhyaḥ tapasvibhyaḥ tvayā saha paramtapa

SYNONYMS

paramtapa: Lakshmana | the castiser of foes! aham: I | tvayā saha: along with you | icchāmi: desire | pradātum: to give away | yat: which | idam: this | dhanam: wealth | mamakam: pertaining to me | brāhmaṇebhyaḥ: to brahmanas | tapasvibhyaḥ: practising ansterities. |

TRANSLATION

"Lakshmana, the chastiser of foes! along with you, I want to give all this wealth pertaining to me to brahmanas, practising ansterities."

VERSE 34

वसन्ति इह दृढम् भक्त्या गुरुषु द्विज सत्तमाः
तेषाम् अपि च मे भूयः सर्वेषाम् च उपजीविनाम्

vasanti iha dṛḍham bhaktyā guruṣu dvija sattamāḥ
teṣām api ca me bhūyaḥ sarveṣām ca upajīvinām

SYNONYMS

teṣāmapica: to those | dvijasattamāḥ: excellent brahmanas | vasanti: residing | iha: here | dṛdham: as strong | bhaktāḥ: devotees | guruṣu: to preceptors | bhūyaḥ: and | sarveṣām: all | me: of my | upajīvināmca: dependants. |

TRANSLATION

"I also desire to give to those excellent brahmanas residing here as strong devotees to their proceptors and to all my dependents."

VERSE 35

इति वाल्मीकि रामायणे आदि काव्ये अयोध्य काण्डे एक त्रिंशः सर्गः

iti vālmīki rāmāyaṇe ādi kāvye ayodhya kāṇḍe eka triṃśaḥ sargaḥ

SYNONYMS

tvam: you | ānaya: bring | āśu: soon | āryam: the venerable | suyajñam: Suyagna | vaśiṣṭaputram: the son of Vasista | pravaram: the best | abhyarcya: after adoring | aparān samastān dvijātīn: all other brahmanas | śiṣṭān: who are cultured | abhiprayāsyāmi: I will go | vanam: to the forest. |

TRANSLATION

"You bring boon the venerable Suyagna, the son of Vasista, the best. After adoring all other brahmanas also who are cultured, I will go to the forest." Thus completes 31st chapter in the Ayodhya kanda of the glorious Ramayayana of Valmiki, the work of a sage and the oldest epic.
