Śrī Veṅkaṭeśa Suprabhātam STOTRAM VERSE 1
कमलाकुचचूचुककुङ्कुमतो नियतारुणितातुलनीलतनो ।
कमलायतलोचन लोकपते विजयी भव वेङ्कटशैलपते ॥ १ ॥
kamalākucacūcukakuṅkumato niyatāruṇitātulanīlatano |
kamalāyatalocana lokapate vijayī bhava veṅkaṭaśailapate || 1 ||
SYNONYMS
kamalā-kuca-cūcuka-kuṅkumataḥ: From the saffron paste on the tips of Kamalā's (Lakṣmī's) breasts | niyata-aruṇita-atula-nīla-tano: O One whose incomparably dark blue body is constantly reddened | kamala-āyata-locana: O One with long lotus-like eyes | loka-pate: O Lord of the worlds | vijayī bhava: Be victorious | veṅkaṭa-śaila-pate: O Lord of Veṅkaṭa hill |
TRANSLATION
Oh Lord of Veṅkaṭācalam! Oh Lord of the Universe! Oh Lord with long eyes reaching almost to your ears and reminding us of the softness and beauty of a lotus flower! Oh Lord whose matchless dark-hued body is rendered red always with the vermillion (Kuṅkumam) marks from the front portions of the breasts of Mahā Lakṣmī, Victory is always to Thee!
PURPORT
The Lord's dark bluish body has a lasting redness due to the sambandham with Śrī Mahā Lakṣmī's saffron and kuṅkumam paste worn on Her breasts as beauty marks. The Lord's body is thus visualized as “Kamalā kuca cūcuka kuṅkumato niyata aruṇita atula nīla tanu." The anyōnyam (mutual relationship) of the divine couple (divya dampatis) is celebrated here. Thāyār's intimate sambandham is hinted as the reason why the Lord of the Veṅkaṭam hills will forgive our trespasses, due to the intercession of our most benevolent Mother united with Him in an inseparable manner. Ahalahillēn Pāśuram of Svāmī Nammāḻvār has to be remembered by us in this context.
