यावत्संजायते किंचित्सत्त्वं स्थावरजङ्गमम्
क्षेत्रक्षेत्रज्ञसंयोगात्तद्विद्धि भरतर्षभ

yāvat saṃjāyate kiṃcit
sattvaṃ sthāvarajaṅgamam
kṣetrakṣetrajñasaṃyogāt
tad viddhi bharatarṣabha

SYNONYMS

yāvat: whatever | sañjāyate: is born | kiṃcit: whatever | sattvam: being | sthāvara: stationary | jaṅgamam: moving | kṣetra-kṣetrajña-saṃyogāt: through the combination of the Kshetra (body) and Kshetrajña (knower of the Field) | tat: that | viddhi: know | bharatarṣabha: O Arjuna |

TRANSLATION

Whatever being is born, whether it is moving or stationary, know, O Arjuna, that it is through the combination of the Kshetra (body) and Kshetrajña (knower of the Field).

PURPORT

Whatever being is born, whether it be movable or stationary, it is born only from the mutual combination of the Kshetra and Kshetrajña. The sense is that it is born only from this combination, i.e., is born as a compound of the two and never in their separateness.
