Śrī Aṣṭalakṣmī Stotram

Śrī Aṣṭalakṣmī Stotram is a devotional hymn in eight sections composed by Śrī U. Ve. Mukkur Srinivasa Varadacharyar, honoring Śrī Mahālakṣmī in eight celebrated forms: Ādi Lakṣmī, Dhānya Lakṣmī, Dhairya Lakṣmī, Gaja Lakṣmī, Santāna Lakṣmī, Vijaya Lakṣmī, Vidyā Lakṣmī, and Dhana Lakṣmī. Each verse praises one expression of Her boundless grace—primordial auspiciousness, nourishment, courage, royal abundance, flourishing lineage, victory, knowledge, and wealth—and ends by imploring the beloved of Madhusūdana to protect the devotee.

Ādi Lakṣmī

सुमनसवन्दित सुन्दरि माधवि
चन्द्रसहोदरि हेममये ।
मुनिगणवन्दित मोक्षप्रदायिनि
मञ्जुलभाषिणि वेदनुते ॥

पङ्कजवासिनि देवसुपूजित
सद्गुणवर्षिणि शान्तियुते ।
जय जय हे मधुसूदनकामिनि

TRANSLATION

O beautiful Mādhavī, adored by noble hearts, golden sister of the Moon! Honored by hosts of sages, giver of liberation, sweet-voiced One praised by the Vedas! You dwell upon the lotus, are perfectly worshiped by the devas, shower auspicious virtues, and are filled with peace. Victory, victory to You, beloved of Madhusūdana! O Ādi Lakṣmī, protect me always.

Dhānya Lakṣmī

अयि कलिकल्मषनाशिनि कामिनि
वैदिकरूपिणि वेदमये ।
क्षीरसमुद्भव मङ्गलरूपिणि
मन्त्रनिवासिनि मन्त्रनुते ॥

मङ्गलदायिनि अम्बुजवासिनि
देवगणआश्रितपादयुते ।
जय जय हे मधुसूदनकामिनि
धान्यलक्ष्मि सदा पालय माम् ॥ २ ॥

TRANSLATION

O beloved Mother who destroys the stains of the age of Kali! Your form is Vedic, and Your being is filled with the Veda. Born from the Ocean of Milk, You are the very form of auspiciousness, dwelling within sacred mantras and praised by them. You bestow every blessing, abide upon the lotus, and possess feet sought as refuge by hosts of devas. Victory, victory to You, beloved of Madhusūdana! O Dhānya Lakṣmī, protect me always.

Dhairya Lakṣmī

जय वरवर्णिनि वैष्णवि भार्गवि
मन्त्रस्वरूपिणि मन्त्रमये ।
सुरगणपूजित शीघ्रफलप्रद
ज्ञानविकासिनि शास्त्रनुते ॥

भवभयहारिणि पापविमोचनि
साधुजनआश्रितपादयुते ।
जय जय हे मधुसूदनकामिनि
धैर्यलक्ष्मि सदा पालय माम् ॥ ३ ॥

jaya vara-varṇini vaiṣṇavi bhārgavi
mantra-svarūpiṇi mantra-maye
sura-gaṇa-pūjita śīghra-phala-prada
jñāna-vikāsini śāstra-nute

bhava-bhaya-hāriṇi pāpa-vimocani

TRANSLATION

Victory to You, radiantly beautiful Vaiṣṇavī, daughter of Bhṛgu! You are the embodiment of mantra and are filled with its sacred power. Worshiped by hosts of devas, You swiftly grant the desired fruit, unfold true knowledge, and are praised by the śāstras. You remove the fear of saṃsāra, release souls from sin, and possess feet sought by the virtuous as their refuge. Victory, victory to You, beloved of Madhusūdana! O Dhairya Lakṣmī, protect me always.

Gaja Lakṣmī

जय जय दुर्गतिनाशिनि कामिनि
सर्वफलप्रद शास्त्रमये ।
रथगजतुरगपदातिसमावृत
परिजनमण्डित लोकनुते ॥

हरिहरब्रह्मसुपूजितसेवित
तापनिवारिणि पादयुते ।
जय जय हे मधुसूदनकामिनि
गजलक्ष्मि रूपेण पालय माम् ॥ ४ ॥

jaya jaya durgati-nāśini kāmini
sarva-phala-prada śāstra-maye
ratha-gaja-turaga-padāti-samāvṛta
parijana-maṇḍita loka-nute

hari-hara-brahma-supūjita-sevita
tāpa-nivāriṇi pāda-yute

Victory, victory to You, beloved destroyer of misfortune, giver of every worthy fruit, and embodiment of sacred wisdom! Surrounded by chariots, elephants, horses, and infantry, adorned by a splendid retinue, You are praised throughout the world. Reverently worshiped and served by Hari, Hara, and Brahmā, Your feet dispel every affliction. Victory, victory to You, beloved of Madhusūdana! In the form of Gaja Lakṣmī, protect me.

Santāna Lakṣmī

अयि खगवाहिनि मोहिनि चक्रिणि
रागविवर्धिनि ज्ञानमये ।
गुणगणवारिधि लोकहितैषिणि
स्वरसप्तभूषितगाननुते ॥

सकलसुरअसुरदेवमुनीश्वर
मानववन्दितपादयुते ।
जय जय हे मधुसूदनकामिनि
सन्तानलक्ष्मि त्वं पालय माम् ॥ ५ ॥

TRANSLATION

O gracious, enchanting Goddess who rides the divine bird and bears the discus! You cause love to flourish and are filled with knowledge. You are an ocean of countless virtues, ever seeking the welfare of the world, and are praised through songs adorned with the seven notes. Your feet are worshiped by devas, asuras, great sages, and human beings alike. Victory, victory to You, beloved of Madhusūdana! O Santāna Lakṣmī, protect me.

Vijaya Lakṣmī

जय कमलासनि सद्गतिदायिनि
ज्ञानविकासिनि गानमये ।
अनुदिनम् अर्चित कुङ्कुमधूसर
भूषितवासितवाद्यनुते ॥

कनकधारास्तुतिवैभववन्दित
शङ्करदेशिकमान्यपदे ।
जय जय हे मधुसूदनकामिनि
विजयलक्ष्मि सदा पालय माम् ॥ ६ ॥

jaya kamalāsani sad-gati-dāyini
jñāna-vikāsini gāna-maye
anudinam arcita kuṅkuma-dhūsara-
bhūṣita-vāsita-vādya-nute

kanakadhārā-stuti-vaibhava-vandita
śaṅkara-deśika-mānya-pade

Victory to You, lotus-seated Goddess, giver of the blessed path, who causes knowledge to blossom and is filled with sacred song! Worshiped every day, reddened with kuṅkuma, beautifully adorned and perfumed, You are praised by melodious instruments. Your venerable feet were extolled by the revered teacher Śaṅkara through the glorious Kanakadhārā Stuti. Victory, victory to You, beloved of Madhusūdana! O Vijaya Lakṣmī, protect me always.

Vidyā Lakṣmī

प्रणतसुरेश्वरि भारति भार्गवि
शोकविनाशिनि रत्नमये ।
मणिमयभूषितकर्णविभूषण
शान्तिसमावृतहास्यमुखे ॥

नवनिधिदायिनि कलिमलहारिणि
कामितफलप्रदहस्तयुते ।
जय जय हे मधुसूदनकामिनि
विद्यालक्ष्मि सदा पालय माम् ॥ ७ ॥

śoka-vināśini ratna-maye
maṇi-maya-bhūṣita-karṇa-vibhūṣaṇa

O queen of the devas, bowed to by all; O Bhārati, daughter of Bhṛgu, destroyer of sorrow and radiant with jewels! Gem-studded ornaments adorn Your ears, and Your smiling face is enveloped in peace. You grant the nine treasures, remove the impurity of the age of Kali, and possess hands that bestow the fruits Your devotees long for. Victory, victory to You, beloved of Madhusūdana! O Vidyā Lakṣmī, protect me always.

Dhana Lakṣmī

धिमिधिमि धिंधिमि धिंधिमि धिंधिमि
दुन्दुभिनादसुपूर्णमये ।
घुमघुम घुंघुम घुंघुम घुंघुम
शङ्खनिनादसुवाद्यनुते ॥

वेदपुराणैतिहाससुपूजित
वैदिकमार्गप्रदर्शयुते ।
जय जय हे मधुसूदनकामिनि
धनलक्ष्मि रूपेण पालय माम् ॥ ८ ॥

Greatly worshiped by the Vedas, Purāṇas, and sacred epics, You reveal and guide us upon the Vedic path. Victory, victory to You, beloved of Madhusūdana! In the form of Dhana Lakṣmī, protect me.
